Another reasonably high-profile project has taken the crowd-sourced funding route, with Bad Planet -- a hopeful videogame adaptation of an established comic book series -- reaching out to Kickstarter with a US$575,000 goal.
Bad Planet is about an ancient meteorite containing destructive alien organisms crashing down on modern Earth and unleashing hell. Another alien, a lone Phaedon warrior, breaks out of intergalactic prison and appears on Earth to help destroy the malevolent invaders - who are also responsible for the destruction of the Warrior’s entire planet.

The plot itself doesn't sound particularly unique or enticing alone, but interestingly the project is being spearheaded by Actor Thomas Jane, who most prominently known for his roles in the HBO TV series Hung, the 2004 The Punisher film and Arrested Development's "Homeless Dad".

Jane is the co-founder of the comics studio Raw Entertainment, along with Illustrator Tim Bradstreet (The Punisher, Hellblazer), and they have enlisted Red Fly Studio -- the game developer of Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars and Wii ports of various licsensed games -- to craft an episodic video game.

The Kickstarter page describes the potential game as a third person action title with "hyper-violent" brutal combat with a deep combo system that hopes to satisfy experienced players, as well as what appears to be an extensive character customisation component. The game will be built on the Unreal Engine for PC and Mac, and hope to be delivered episodically via Steam in 2-4 hour increments, with Xbox Live and PlayStation Network efforts to follow, if successful.

Check out the Kickstarter Pitch video below, and if this sounds like your thing. head over to the Kickstarter page to contribute.
