38 Studios' closure and financial issues have been a jarring reminder of just how fragile the games industry can be sometimes, as well as how much money can be lost in the wake of such closures.
Upon the studios' deathbed, it emerged they'd been working on an MMO set in the Kingdoms of Amalur universe (which, arguably, they might have been better off just releasing in place of their single-player RPG), and quite recently what looks to be an official video for the project has surfaced, replete with proper production and presentation. The game itself was charged with taking a lot from Blizzard's World of Warcraft, so there's no telling if an MMO that looked this similar would have been successful, and unfortunately, we'll never know.
