With 10 full days left to spare, Stainless games have passed the US$400,000 goal required to fund development of their Carmageddon remake, ensuring that the title can now be created without major publisher support.
Helping to get it over the line, the Stainless team recently announced that they intend to offer a DRM-free version of the game that will still offer the promised single-player and LAN multiplayer support (but not online multiplayer). Notable features now being touted include high modability, a classic sound set from the original Carmageddon voice-actor, a post-race damage gallery, car-handling like Carmageddon 1, car splitting and the return of classic Carmageddon animals and more. Looking beyond $400k, the team have outlined the first stretch-goal as Mac and Linux support should the project reach $600,000 with potential aspirations for a PSN/XBLA console release to follow that. if that wasn't enough Carmageddon news, GOG.com have revealed that the original Carmageddon and it's Splat Pack expansion will soon be coming to their DRM-free digital retail platform for US$9.99. Head over to the official Carmageddon: Reincarnation Kickstarter page to get in on the action.

So glad the GoG version is coming, that game was next to impossible to get running on a newer OS.

I don't know how hard you tried, but it fired up for me first go under DosBox... It also runs well with the glide wrappers going around at the moment too... The gameplay still holds up very well! I can't wait for a sequel to this awesome game series!
