AusGamers Guide to Pre-Ordering Diablo 3

While we count down the days until the release of Diablo III, many gamers eager to start destroying their mouse buttons are still wondering where the best pre-order deals are. Knowing your pain, AusGamers has compiled a comprehensive run-down of all the major retailer offerings as well as a digital version for those not interested in retail copies. All pre-orders listed below are both PC and Mac versions.

Retail Pre-orders

Game are listing their standard version for $89.

JB Hi-Fi has their standard version listed for $69 and their collectors edition (which is now sold out) was available for $137.

Harvey Norman is currently offering a standard edition for $68, which seems to be the cheapest of the retailers.

If you'd prefer to get it straight from Blizzard (Austraila-tax included, but the only digital-download method guaranteed to be delivered on launch day), a digital edition is available for $79.99 from the battle.net page.

Diablo III is coming to PC and Mac on May 15th 2012.

I decided to suck up the extra cost and go with battle.net, only route that guarantees availability for 5pm May 15th.

EDIT: normally I'm all about the online CDkey shops, but I'm making an exception here just to make sure I can be in on the launch night fun.

Where'd the info about EB not price matching come from?
(they won't match price until the pickup is made regardless, so the PM is never on the 'pre-order' as such)

I've just spoken to EB Games and they stated that they won't price match on pre-orders, but will do so when the game has been released and if the competitor store has stock.

i played the beta for the first time the other day. wasn't very impressed because it would freeze for about 2-5 seconds every 20 seconds or so. i'm guessing it was due to a shitty connection to their servers. always on internet connections for SP games is fucking lame.

I never have problems with games always having the net on to play. Must have just been something weird going on. I doubt it would be like that when the full thing is shipped.

Also, direct download from Battlenet seems like the best option if you want to play straight away. Just pre-load and wait for it to unlock.

Technically you're paying 12 x $15 to get Diablo 3, a mount and beta access Rukh, but I don't want to spoil your fun.

I'll be purchasing my copy from Ozsave, seem to be the cheapest and I'm okay with not getting it straight on the day.

According to this ozbargain thread, they seem to be quite reliable. THey use to deal just in boxed copies, but have switched to both digital and boxed now.

Not sure if this has been written or not, however if your not anal about d3 being on your current blizzard account, making a new one and setting your country to the USA will allow you to purchase the game for $50.

CJS CD Key are offering Diablo 3 for $57.60 for a EU standard edition key.

Please be wary of this seller - has in the past consistently continued to sell keys even when out of stock, changed terms of sale/preloading AFTER you've paid, needs to be pushed/threatened to give a refund.

Buy elsewhere.

Im surprised the online cd key sellers are so expensive. I dont recall what starcraft 2 was on released but most of the time even new keys are $30-40max.

You could actually do it a little cheaper if you made the subscription two blocks of 6 months. Ended up saving $22 I think it was. Although I don't think you can do that now if you've already picked a plan. But I could be wrong. But yeah, that's what I ended up doing. If I was smart I would have done that plan from the very beginning when I first started playing. Just never thought to.

An update on concerns for EU/US region CD Keys, apparently your "home" server is actually designated by the region you sign up with on battle.net, according to this new FAQ. So you are quite safe in buying an EU or US CD Key, as long as you have Australia or America set to your region for battle.net.

Someone is bitter, i'd say the hype comes 99% from the players and not blizzard. Blizzard haven't done anything crazy overthetop that every other A grade game hasn't done from a marketing perspective.

So all you're complaining about is the people who are excited for the game. Are you perhaps saying they're wrong for highly anticipating a release?

Isn't that a bit much to think that you know better?

its a whole separate client. i'd get downloading now and also uninstall the beta.

I also suggest to the people who have the digital copy to run the installer the day before release. I ran it before and it spent about 10 mins updating something which i can only assume was the game files. every second counts.
