Diablo 3 Official Release Date - May 15

The question everyone has been waiting for has finally been answered - Diablo 3 will launch worldwide on May 15th!

The news was announced this morning on the Diablo 3 blog, along with a link to the Blizzard store to pre-order the game (USD$69.95, unless you live in Australia where it of course has the Australia tax, so it's AUD$79.95) now and a reminder that if you're interested in picking it up for free, you can do so if you buy a World of Warcraft annual pass.

It's pretty reprehensible but it is Activision so I guess you should be thankful they aren't asking for $99.99 like they do on Steam.

Release date is midnight PDT 15/05. Which means servers are on from 5pm AEST for us, something I don't mind in any capacity (means I don't have to be awake at some ridiculous.. oh wait, I'm getting it from the WoW pass thing).

When sc2 launched dick smith did a great deal @ 68 + launch day delivery.

I have a question.. Is there any point in pre-downloading and installing the game now? Surely there is bound to be changes / patches before release in 2 months time as they finalize all beta testing etc? Or is the download available now the finished game?

Why do we pay OVER 40% MORE ... to buy the pre-order... everyone should be outraged..

The Math -> 60 USD @ today's rate of 1.0536 = 56.95 AUD Preorder is 79.95 AUD Difference (23$ More)

40% increase on 56.95 = 79.73... gah price gouging at its worst... fu blizz.

The download will be the core files. It doesn't appear that you can 'install' it until the game has been released - and yes, I would fully expect there to be more content to download on launch day - it would just be a more 'patch size' instead of 'full game' size.

That's right.

Blizzard will most likely keep the preload version/cd version the same so if there is an update on launch everyone will update from the same base version.

I downloaded it last night it's not even 8gb, downloaded the file in less than an hour which is awesome for Blizzard normally WoW patches take a while because of all the load on the servers. You can't install the game yet so I'll just run the auto-patcher a week before release to grab any larger changes that might have been made.

Also glad I didn't get any Beta keys, the gameplay is going to be fresh and exciting for me

Can't wait been playing D2 to get ready!
