For anyone who has pre-ordered a copy of Tera, or been accepted into the first beta, you can now download the full game client (weighing in at 30GB) through the game launcher.
Hello TERA fans!
For those who have pre-ordered TERA through the En Masse store, fire up your launcher! You'll be able to start downloading the TERA beta client in advance of Friday's first closed beta test. After you've downloaded the client and run it, you will see the server selection screen, and you'll be as ready as you can be for the event!
We are working non-stop to address the distribution of beta codes to our fans who pre-ordered from GameStop, Best Buy, or Amazon, and will provide updates as they are available.
We will try to get a local version online as soon as possible, which will hopefully save time and bandwith quota for those in need.
Check out our
game page for more info and screenshots, including the latest game trailers.

Also, is any word on Aus servers?

Loot in instances is handled on a need before greed basis so a spellcaster can't roll on heavy armor or a big arse 2H axe. All items spill out onto the floor and then rolls commence so they can be picked up. Hrm what else? Oh yeah for pvp he hit the queue button and instantly he was in a game. Was very surprised how fast it happened and within 5 seconds of pressing it was in a game including load times. The way it should be eh?
Watching him just made me more excited to play it. Looks like I got me a huge arse game to download tonight while asleep.

I'll wait for some feedback on Tera before making a decision on it... want to see some footage of the 'western' adapted one!
Posted 06:51pm 08/2/12
What exactly did Aion try and do that made it bomb compared to this? It had targetting etc and the combat was just another mmo... plus it had horrible flying that was horrible.
Sigh... instanced pvp again....

Is there open-world PvP in TERA?
There are world PvP servers in TERA; these PvP servers will also include battlegrounds that provide specific PvP rewards. There are also PvE servers that provide consensual PvP content, such as battlegrounds and duels
Posted 07:33pm 08/2/12
I have also noticed that this weekends closed beta will only have pve servers which is fine, im sure you can duel on that to check out latency etc?
Posted 08:12pm 08/2/12
I meant more the whole idea of westernising an asian MMO.
Posted 08:18pm 08/2/12
Aion is still the 2nd most popular MMO at the momment so shits gotta be doing something right? I know thats a bad example, but you know. Aion also had MASSIVE flaws which forsed you to grind. I recall distinctly running completely out of quests at one level and there not being an appropriate level dungeon for me that was high enough (regardless, it's still grinding running through dungeon after dungeon of lower level content).
Posted 08:38pm 08/2/12
There is no factions, it's Open World PVP FFA, which I think is really awesome. Means if you go to attack someone, you risk the chances of ruining a possible friend for grouping. There is also a system like AoC where with enough infamy, you will be denied into major cities, but other "black market" places open up. There is also a bounty system for people with kill on sight infamy.
Posted 08:46pm 08/2/12
One thing I wish WoW would do is make it so Horde/Ailliance people can defect to the other faction. Have a quest line open up at a certain level and once you complete it you become part of the other faction. Also, you become flagged PVP for ever from the faction you left. So, nowhere is safe for you. Even places like Shatt and Dal.
Posted 10:40pm 08/2/12
What makes you say that? Guild Wars 2 is about the only MMO I'm looking forward to at the moment.

Just had a quick go before the servers went down playing a Lancer. Felt great. Couldn't really feel any lag/delay using abilities and the combat system is awesome. Can't wait to give it a longer go over the weekend.
Posted 03:57pm 09/2/12
I personally hate boss fights where they are just drawn out ordeals with no real danger. I know that for some people a long fight where you get to chip away at the mob while he repeats the same set of abilities over and over again is their idea of epic but for me it's just boring. It seems completely out of place with what I've heard about their combat, I mean if dodging is such a big deal then shouldn't it be a big deal? Rather than just having a dude stand there and take no damage because the mob that has a million hit points, hits like a kitten.
Posted 04:03pm 09/2/12
Posted 04:07pm 09/2/12
Combat from what I quickly tried in the sneak peek was like that video, where blocking or dodging allows you to take no damage. So if you have good healers and a sense of direction, you'll survive longer then someone who sits there and absorbs damage like a sponge.
Posted 05:10pm 09/2/12
Posted 07:55pm 09/2/12
Healing is done by "painting" targets, and then using the desired spells. They have to stay within range though, so it's going to be quite a difficult task.
Here is an example:

Combat -
Combat is fun, it's different and it's hard. I rolled a Baraka Priest, so I'm this massive huge dude shooting off spells. The UI is done well with the combat, in that the skill slots are easy to use, you can assign any spell to your mouse button 1 or 2 that you see fit and you also use the tab key for any spell you desire. There is no targeting, it's purely crosshair and hit scanning. If your spell misses the target, it misses. If the target tries to hit you and you dodge, you take no damage.
I'm only level 5 so far, due to server issues making it hard to get on and have a decent play through, but from what I've tried, the AI combat is pretty crappy, but that might be due to low levels and wanting to introduce you to the mechanics of the game.
UI -
The User Interface is something I've never seen before. Everything is customisable and oh boy is it awesome being allowed to move stuff around to how I want it. In the option menu you can actually increase or decrease the UI scale, which is really good for making certain things smaller (health bars and mini map to name). Overall it's smart, it says everything, nothing isn't really "cluttered" like in WoW when I use to raid and it has everything I need.
Character classes -
I've only been able to play Priest so far due to 1 character limit, but when creating a class, you can see each classes abilities and what they are mainly "used" for. Every class can heal or tank or deal damage, but certain classes are just better off. There are two different "tanks", the Warrior and the Lancer. Warrior is the tank that actually tries to dodge and keep focus, where as the Lancer will try and absorb the damage while dealing damage and holding agro.
PVP and Pings -
I haven't been able to fully try out PVP, but I did try a few duels, and oh boy is the Priest terrible at dealing damage to anything but a NPC. This is obviously something that will hopefully get better as you grow more powerful, but I also think I rolled the wrong class for PVPing. Pings are fine, I get around 200ms and the combat hasn't lagged once besides a server crash. Everything is responsive, when I was dueling I didn't feel like I was lagging out, and using my heals was quick to respond.
Overall, I'll be enjoying this MMO quite a lot. The character creation is amazing, the landscapes are beautiful, and everything just seems to work well. Today/Sunday I'll hopefully be able to try out the crafting and see what that is like, but from what I've seen in YouTube videos I won't be disappointed. Also I noticed you can setup stores like in Aion, to sell your wares, which is always great.
There is more to come however, as apparently there will be guild housing, guild pvp, server vs server pvp, politics which I really want to have a look into, and raids are being added. Also of note is that the levels 1-40 experience are being fully revamped in time for open beta, so what I'm experiencing now will be completely different come then.
I'll add some screenshots to the bottom of this post as well as a YouTube video just showing off the starting area and some combat/UI.

Anyway loving the game so far but chat... my god it's bad. Full of dumbasses and trolls. To be expected I guess. I can see this being quite fun. Anyway I'm on the 1st server, Lv 2 sorcerer so far called Chi.

has me interested so far but im not sold yet
Posted 02:31pm 11/2/12
Everything else though seems really dull. The questing is dull and ultra grindy. The story is dull. The voice acting is dull.
Obviously I've only played to level 5 - but if the only thing the game has going for it is a more Diablo'esque style combat I think I will pass.
Posted 02:33pm 11/2/12
And yeah Zapo the quests are your average MMO style, but not as grindy as I expected from an Asian based MMO. Apparently they had to recently add more grind in the Korean version cause it wasn't grindy enough.

That aside though I think Mystic will be my main class. I wanted to be archer but that quickly went away since it doesn't have all that great AoE as a single target dps class. Mystic just always seems to have mana, hp, pets and buffs.

Grindy mcgrind... hmm tough to say. Everyone is right in saying the quests are very vanilla wow like, go here, kill 3 of those, go there collect 10 of those etc but these people probably did come from the biggest MMOSP of all time with the most amount of single player content ever.
Leveling is currently fast just banging out these quests, I think I got to level 13, with a mount mind you that they give you for free as you progress out of the starting zone, all from about 3-4 hours of playing.
Some people have been very spoiled though fortunately people like myself have actually played other MMOs other than WOW and WOW in space, such as DAOC, so you have a very good appreciation for games like this that make it an absolute sinch to level.
My biggest concern with all of these games of past have been end-game content, so it is impossible to judge a book by it's cover (or in this case, the first 13 levels) so to take anyones advise to play it or not is clazy. Rift - what an immense let down, TOR - LOL the content is the same, you're just level 50 now, WOW even isn't my cup of tea - grind out 25 daily quests a day and chain run dungeons and once a week poop sock for 5 hours in a raid NO THANKS.
I'm holding alot of hope for this game as it's the only game since DAOC where they have actually concentrated on PVP (excluding that smouldering piece of shit, WAR).
The guild quests are kinda cool - kinda stollen from Rift I guess though they're personal guild quests, not guild-wide quests, so it just gives you a bunch of more *kill 10 of these* *collect 5 of these* style quests to do while you're doing the regular ones.

Yeah heh that's the problem with a lot of MMO players these days, they don't understand what we didn't have back in the old days. I remember it was only Molten Core and Onyxia, that was it for raids. Didn't have any battlegrounds, PVP was only world PVP, and there were world bosses that use to get kited into Stormwind.
Luckily Tera has been out in Korea for a year, so it has a shit load of content behind it, a great political system that is really in-depth, a guild system that I have never seen before (it's really, really awesome), and PVP out of the wazoo. This is definitely a MMO I'll be playing for a while, and En Masse have said they are going to try as hard as possible to shorten the delay between content patches via Korea to Western.

Posted 10:55am 12/2/12
I think molten core was in plain vanilla and ony was added in a patch... not 100% sure though. The amount of content in vanilla wow end-game wise was fine in reality, you have to remember that even at TBC launch probably something like 90-95% of players still hadn't cleared molten core entirely... since vanilla blizzard has done nothing but bitch out and make all the endgame super casual friendly... I remember walking around in tier 2 with a sense of pride! you had to work with 40 people and not be shit at the game to get it...
I'm really hanging to see you guys post some vids of some mid game levelling.... reminds me a lot of MU from what I have seen so far, which is cool, the grind in that was fun.

Sucks butt though that you are limited to only 1 character per server because my game crashes if I change server. Buu. Anyway my favorite class is the Mystic. Sure I don't do as much dps right away as a berserker but I can tell that every group will want one. Why wouldn't you when at 50ish you get a 2x crit rate buff? Not to mention they have HoTs and never seem to run out of mana.
Also it wasn't until today I noticed that humans/castanics/elves have boob physics on them, as they jiggle when they move. Eh oh well I like my elin.
Posted 11:59am 12/2/12
Personally I'd say its a failing of developers to meet the expectations of their customers.
So far as the old man on the porch shit goes, I remember when raids meant Naggy and Vox.

Posted 04:07pm 12/2/12
So say I use charge, I can then tell the game right after that I want to use shield bash and create combos like that. Cool stuff if you ask me since it frees up room if your bars become full. Also this seems to be the only mmo so far that has no shortage of tanks or healers since they are actually fun to play.

That's on top of the AH so some may call it excessive but I think its good though it will destroy the fps of the city when you have 300 pets up at once in the same area.
Posted 09:07pm 12/2/12
Nah, just have the option in settings that reduces number of NPC's and players beyond a certain radius. I think it may even be on automatically and when it detects low fps drop reduces detail etc.

PVE - in Tera, this is very basic and required little to no thinking when soloing. Kill 10 of thos, collect 3 of those, like as basic as vanilla wow. I personally liked this, as I hate pve more than I hate the warmth of dudes. In saying this, for those who love engrossed pve with uber story and all that shit, it probably no good. You couldn't get to the end-game in the beta so who knows.
PVP - the pvp is complete shit in my opinion. Implemented poorly and has zero rewards, making it just another WOW/RIFT/TOR rinse/repeat PVP game.
The game has perdy graphics, however it is VERY KEKEKEKEK Korean still, even with all the English and American accents.
My best comparisons would be:
The graphics of Aion
The leveling PVE of vanilla wow
The grouping PVE of wow
The PVP of what was meant to be Rift and AOC with 0 reward.
The combat system is great in essence, however it really did get more and more noticeable on the Aussie ping. The start of the beta I looked past it as I was just so excited for the game, however as the PVP let me down the more and more I played, it just became a glaring factor to how shitty it has been implemented.
Obviously it's difficult to judge an MMORPG based on 1/3 of the levels and no end-game, though.
Posted 06:13pm 27/3/12
Overall, great game with a lot of potential for a niche crowd. It might not pull millions and millions, but no MMO can these days. If you like action gameplay and don't want to sit there and spam buttons and be bored, probably going to enjoy it.
Also raids will be huge by the details that have been shown. And there are a heap of instances to do level 20+.
