Free-to-Play MMOs are scrambling this morning, after news Blizzard have decided to adopt the model for their game for players to grind until level 20 where you'll need a subscription to continue. There's no limit to how many characters you can use, either.
The World of Warcraft Starter Edition allows players to access World of Warcraft for free -- all you need is a Battle.net account and an Internet connection. Starter Edition players can play up to a maximum character level of 20 and are able to upgrade to a full, paid account at any time, allowing them to continue their adventures where they left off. The Starter Kit gives gamers who are interested in trying out World of Warcraft a chance to experience the game before purchasing a copy.
There's also a local price reduction on the World of WarCraft: Battle Chest, which has dropped from AU$69.95 to AU$29.95 (SRP) and includes a full 30-days of play time.

A shame, I wouldn't have minded getting back into it. I just attempted to ring blizz support 1800 number just then and it said 45 minute wait in queue. Fck that.

That's a shit solution. First problem: I don't even know one person who has it installed.
Would this work with the trial account launcher? Because that downloaded content as it needed to, reducing the whole install to a few hundred mb's and then downloading as it went along IIRC. Much more clever way to solve the issue.
Edit: wow could go f2p and just not let people raid or BG and they'd get people who hit 80 and then go "well i love my char so much i'll go pay a subscription for a month and see how it goes, it's only like 20 dollars".

i've been getting emails to an email address that hasn't associated with WoW or battle.net for a while now. they're usually emails saying my account's been hacked and shit. don't really care, haven't played it for like 5 years.

Um. No it is only a small download and you can start playing straight away, it downloads as you go. And considering this thread is "F2P Till level20" if you only want to play till level 20 that IS the best option.
If you want to install the whole game, that's irrelevant to the F2P scheme.

I don't see why it matters, it's an easy game to download. I love that from the list of restrictions on the trial accounts most of them are anti-Chinese.
