Gamasutra is reporting THQ have confirmed the closure of Homefront developer, Kaos Studios, based out of New York, along with Digital Warren Studios, just months after the release of the not-so-well-received Homefront.

According to the report, this closure is based on THQ's "strategy of aligning the best industry talent with the company’s marquee franchises", with the publisher's Montreal Studio now taking over Homefront development duties. They also mentioned they're expanding their Montreal, Austin and Vancouver studios, and that any employees from the two closed-down studios would be eligible to interview for positions at the aforementioned.

Despite lacklustre reviews, Homefront did sell more than one million copies in its first two weeks on sale worldwide.

Just like any other member of the general public with a similar resume and technical background eh?

Heh, yeah. I don't know why they even bothered with that line.
If they were really interested in retaining those staff members they could have simply transferred them instead of booting them out the door. Also, I can't imagine anyone they do actually re-hire is going to feel extremely loyal on their return.

I like Homefront and still play it. Don't know what they're complaining about. It shit all over MW2.

Edit: Actually I didn't like that I couldn't kill middle Eastern people in it.

Yeah and I loved MW2, especially that No Russian scene at the airport filled with western people. Easily best game ever man.

Homefront multiplayer was and still is quality, it was the singleplayer that led the mediocre reviews. Similar fate with Brink, though it benefited from it's far more obvious focus on the multiplayer portion and made more reviewers acknowledge that.

It's a shame that a MP FPS game can't be really successful without a solid solo campaign these days. The days of Quake 3 and BF2 are long behind us.

BF2 was huge and it had zero single player. I didn't even finish the Homefront SP, because it did indeed suck.

The homefront engine overall is very very dated, for the price they wanted on steam its a joke game.

homefront multi really was/is great but it def takes ideas from the MW games.

alot of the bad press tho was due to stupid bugs such as the rank loss bug, where if you clicked to goto the leaderboards from the main menu it would erase your earnt levels/ranks. they eventually fixed it but it was ongoing for like 4 or 5 weeks.
