You know Valve Corporation, right? Those little battlers that started with Half-Life, made a small program called Steam in order to evenly distribute Counter-Strike patches and then kinda went on to take over the digital-distribution portion of the gaming world.

Well it’s now been announced at E3 that distributing software isn’t enough for them; they want a bite of the hardware pie, too. Here’s the official word:
“SteelSeries, the leading global manufacturer of gaming peripherals, today announced a new partnership with Valve Corporation, entertainment software and technology company and creator of the popular Steam platform and award-winning properties such as Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, Portal and Left 4 Dead. Through a multi-title agreement, SteelSeries will work closely with Valve to design co-branded gaming surfaces, specific for Valve’s most recognized game titles.”
Be honest, you know you want to own a Portal mouse as much as we do.

Title is misleading. This is just about Valve-branded peripherals. This article makes it sound like they're working on some sort of Steam hardware, like a console or something.

I was thinking more like video cards and stuff like that

I just want the mouse to disappear through the mouse pad and appear on the other side of the room so I can throw the mouse at the desk and smack the guy I'm playing against in the back of the head. Remember - speedy thing go in, speedy thing come out.

so... mouse pads?

Awesome.

Ever since the laser mouse was invented I've used my desk as a gaming surface - so maybe they are going to be selling desks too?

Yeah, interesting point there. It does seem to suggest mouse pads, but could also be a really weird way of saying that SteelSeries is making the peripherals that are going to be covered in Valve imagery.

Peripherals are hardware.
This may be technically true, but it is sort of commonly accepted amongst gamers that peripherals are keyboards, mouses, printers etc and hardware is CPUs, video cards, RAM etc. So the title is misleading. I clicked on this fully expecting to see a valve made video card which was initially very surprising. Finding out they are just making mousepads or something is very underwhelming :P

Yea having your logo printed on gimmick peripherals is nothing new and not news worthy.

the use of the word 'hardware' isn't what is most misleading about your title - although i can see how many found that confusing.

the use of the phrase 'seeks to dominate' is. signing a deal to put some of your IP on a 3rd party manufacturer's mousepads or headsets hardly sounds like a serious attempt to 'dominate [the] hardware [market]'. i doubt other hardware manufacturers are particularly worried about this development.

also, it's good posting etiquette to post a link to the source you have quoted.

If you're talking about the o.p, then he probably is the source as it's an ausgamers news/press release regurgitation.

not as long as you don't resort to posting lengthy paragraphs of sad attempts at personal insults only to delete them a few hours later. i assume that's contrary to the new attitude too?

I'm open to suggestions for a new title, it just has to flow as well as the one I did... go nuts! ;)

Also, Bah is correct: this was taken from a press release. Link is below, although I quoted the meat 'n' taters in the news article.
