Heroes of Newerth (HON) is celebrating its first anniversary since being released.

To kick off the HoNiversary celebration, we are offering 11 days of FREE-to-play. Starting today (Thursday, May 12) at 9 p.m. EST new players will be able to sign up and play at no cost. Grab your friends and get your game HoN. The F2P session ends Sunday, May 22nd at 12 a.m. EST. To join, new players simply need to download the game and register a HoN nickname at: http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/create_account.php

They have added a number of new heroes since the game's release and i still find it good fun and play it on a regular basis. Plus, with the free-to-play, there will be tonnes of noobs to pwn or be pwned by. promoted forum item

Edit: We've got mirrors of the latest clients available now: Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

their match making is pretty good, groups the noobs with the noobs, and the more serious noobs with the more serious r'quitters.

DD you are technically a newb though, you don't just go from zero to hero without earning your stripes tiger.

Cool story though, has troggles given you a newshound achievement yet? Wuxtry I presume.

So doing battle for the relevant news this quarter are the sour as a lemon Pinky (realid unknown), SF the legendary nerdgasm wordsmith, Dan the Usurper who stole the nickanme from a famous irc channel (and his sidekick Splashy also known as OtherDan), trog the O.G. overlord, and the rest of us who piece together their media puzzle (still can't accept that I lost betting the house on that glue factory)

Adds a channelling bar, right click deny, last hit assist, some layout improvements and heaps more minor improvements. More details available at the link. I think to access the link you need to sign up for the HON forum which uses a different account to the account you use to play the actual game.

They do specials from time to time and i expect they might drop down the price after the free week. I remember accounts have been on special for $20 and even $10 before (IIRC).

Ok... so just started playing HON... COOL... COOL Game ('cept, i keep getting owned.) So yeh maybe im the newb u guys ar talkin about. so yeh, any guides / tips to help me out?

IMO make sure you stick to casual games. You dont lose money for dieing. There is a filter you can use in the server browser so that it only displays casual games.

Also, try to find games with players that have low PSR (under 1500 is good) and low KDR (under 1 is good, under 0.5 is great).

Plus, i think 2v2 or 3v3 games are better when noob. If you play 5v5 and are the worst on your team, thats 4 team mates who dont like you and 5 enemies who can pwn you. But in 2v2 there are only 2 enemies to watch for and i think the game depends more on individual skill rather than team battles. However, 2v2 or 3v3 some heroes are better suited because of their skills while other are less suited which can be tough but its still a good way to learn.

Im not sure about guides or things like that but if you are new to HON then you really need to play heaps of games until you know what each hero does and how to play them or versus them.

Youre dead right about 4 team mates that hate you! Its not so beginner friendly... but im writing down names of a*holes to find and gank later Muhahhahah
