Electronic Arts have kicked off open beta testing again -- for what appears to be another week -- for their Spore-tech powered, sci-fi action-RPG Darkspore. The previous test only offered the game client through Steam, but this time it's re-distributable and you can now grab the whole 5.5GB installer locally from AusGamers.

There's an extensive patch log over on the official forums, which -- on top of a massive list of fixes -- includes a new Endless Play mode
Endless Play mode – After completing Apocalypse mode (or hitting the beta Darkspore Threat cap), players may chain to harder versions of the same Darkspore Threat level to prove their skills and to increase the chance of gaining rare special items.
Darkspore is due on April 28th 2011, exclusively (for now) on PC.

Such a pity the game sucks. The Spore Engine is not meant for that kind of game. And to cut the customization out of it? Yeah.... no thanks. Just not enough in this game to keep any sane person interested iMO
