The development of PlayStation branded smartphone from Sony Ericsson has been one of the worst kept secrets in the biz, with photos of prototypes and dropped hints from executives going back months now. However, accompanying a 30 second spot during yesterday's Superbowl football match, the company have now officially confirmed it's existence, kicking off a new-media oriented promo on
Facebook and revealing the name "Sony Ericsson Experia PLAY".
According to the Facebook page, the actual official reveal has been scheduled for Monday 14th February 05:00 AEDT (Sydney time) when they will presumably reveal the system specs and the like, no-doubt confirming everything else we
already knew about the device.
The most significant feature of course is the slide panel that bears the familiar PlayStation controller face buttons, aiming to introduce a wider range of input options to games designed for the Android OS that will drive the Experia PLAY.

It's a little fat though. I'll be waiting to see how it goes once it starts selling. Definitely want to see how it fares in the wild before I order one.
And yeah, it's a creepy ad.

They're doing the right thing with their Playstation Suite though. The PlayStation-branded games they're releasing aren't just limited to this device. They'll be available for any Android phone running Gingerbread. A surprising move from someone like Sony, who's generally all about keeping their stupid shit proprietary.
Provided there's nothing -bad- about this phone (like poor performance, bad build quality, etc.) this will likely be my next phone, methinks.

I'm confused, some sites out there say it's Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) and other sites say Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). The October link says both. Will not be interested if it isn't Honeycomb.
