Square-Enix in Japan today have officially announced a new direct sequel to last year's Final Fantasy XIII, confirming the rumours when Internet-sleuths noticed the new domain registration which once again adds the "-2" to their otherwise roman-numerated franchise.
Details on the new JRPG are scant at present, however a teaser trailer recorded from a Japanese event has been leaked and shouldn't be too hard for interested parties to track down (although it has been removed from Youtube at the time of this posting). We'll hopefully know more about the game when the clip is officially released in a couple of days.
For the time being, you can check out the rather sparse
official website and this
single screenshot.
In other Final Fanasty news. The upcoming PlayStation Portable title Final Fantasy Agito XIII has now been renamed to Final Fantasy Type-0, presumably to avoid confusion with XIII-2. Thanks Japan!

The final fantasy series is all but a shadow of its former self.
