That's right folks, it has now been confirmed that PC and PS3 will have exclusive co-op cross-platforming through steamworks on the PS3. It will include auto-updates, downloadable content, and community support, like the PC version of Steam, but skimmed down. It will also include the SteamCloud, which will allow PS3 users to have their data saved on steam servers, in case of malfunctions or loss of saves.

What comes with the PS3 version, is both the PS3 disc, and a digital copy of the PC version, which can be tagged onto a Steam account. The Steam account must be linked with the PSN account however, but nonetheless, it means you can easily play one or the other in different scenarios.

This is just ground breaking news, and the first, of what is hopefully the start, of a new era in cross-platforming.

Wow, the PC version will be included? That's awesome. I may very well buy the PS3 version instead. I don't know why, because I'll probably not even play the PS3 version, but if they're around the same price, I may as well get two copies for the price of one!

Yep, this is awesome (even though I'd much prefer if it was Xbox and not PS3). This is precisely the sort of game in which the difference between console and PC controls probably won't make a huge difference, and merging the two environments I think will be awesome for everyone. Assuming they can ban griefers on PS3 now that their online security system has been completely and utterly demolished, but Valve should be able to do something about that - like maybe make it a requirement on PS3 that you need to log into Steam.

I don't think it will be a new account Tepid. If you want the PC version, you have to tie your steam account to your PSN account. But you still log in just as you normally do.
