EA have sent through word that the hotly anticipated Portal 2 will be shipping in Australia this year through their distribution channel, and will hit store-shelves here on April 21 for Mac, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

"Portal 2 is Valve's most innovative title in the company's history and will be launched with a first-class launch campaign this April," said Doug Lombardi, vice president of marketing at Valve via press release. "We're excited to be working with Electronic Arts to deliver this title as we expand our platform strategy to include the Mac and PlayStation 3 platforms."

No word on pricing or Collector's Editions yet, but stay tuned for more as it becomes available.

I just find it strange EA is onboard with selling it, I guess Value find it would be cheaper to get EA to box it and sell it on shelves then doing themselves and get a %.

They're only the distributor, Valve is still the publisher. Also, EA handled retail distribution for The Orange Box and the Left 4 Dead games.

Yeah, it's not EA proper, it's their EA Partners global distro/co-publisher label. Depending on the game/developer EA Partners does often handle some of the publisher and PR responsibilities, but afaik, their deals don't retain any IP rights - Harmonx still owns the Rock Band name, Crytek still owns Crysis, Epic still owns Bulletstorm etc.

But in Valve's case they seem to handle all their own PR (they have their own booth at tradeshows etc), so I'd guess every agreement EA Partners signs is tailored to the dev. Seems like it must be a pretty good deal for indie devs though, lots of them seem to stick with it over multiple releases.
