The Spike TV Video Game Awards didn't just set loose a bunch of 2011 hysteria for upcoming and newly announced titles, it also served as something of an official comment from Blizzard that their next-gen MMO, codenamed "Titan", is very much real and scheduled for potential release in 2013.
Speaking with Destructoid at the event, and answering questions about leaked info earlier in the month regarding the company's internal development and release roadmap for the next few years, Blizzard co-founder and executive Vide President, Frank Pearce, confirmed the game's existence and codename. "Titan is... the media is not meant to know anything about that," he told the site. "It's our next-gen MMO, and we've only started talking about it in a limited fashion because we want to leverage the fact that we're working on something like that for the purpose of recruiting--getting some of the best talent in the industry on that." Rumours speculate that the MMO will, in fact, be for console and that it will not eat into World of WarCraft's fan-base as a result (which does make sense). It is also suggested it will be an entirely brand-new IP from Blizzard, and not based on any of their current or former franchises. Let the rampant speculation begin!

It would also explain it being a console (only) release and how it would not cut into Blizzards current MMO property.

IMO, it'd be good to see Blizz carve a new IP. They've been sitting on their big 3 for too long now.

Yeah 99% sure this is the case (everyone keeps saying that reach was the last Halo game that Bungie was working on. That being said, I couldn't think of anything more boring (unless of course it had RvB commentary).

4 player network RPGs are not MMO's ... Even if they have lobbies. It'd be like saying Diablo 2 was an MMO.

I read this as move away from Halo so when the rumors surfaced of a Halo MMO I was a little surprised. It would be a hard stretch to change the IP, keep the codename, remain an MMOFPS and avoid any IP legalities with Microsoft though.
I'm 99% sure I read all this speculation on Team Liquid.
