Topping off all of our BlizzCon Diablo coverage here on AusGamers this morning, is a full hands-on preview of the game, with all the mouse-clicks I could handle during the event.

Actually, the experience was completely satisfying, as I outline in today's feature article, where I explore the dungeon lay-outs, loot, levelling up, monsters, visuals, art-direction, gore, story and lore.

Unfortunately spaces behind demo PCs were limited, even for press, but I made sure I played right through the demo to get as much out of it as possible, and did so with the new character class.

Been trying not to let myself get too carried away waiting for this one because it's so far away, but damn it's hard.

One thing about it though, the screenshots just really don't seem to do it justice. Looks so much better in motion in the HD trailers.

Also, given the simplicity of controls, it really seems like a no-brainer for a multi-platform release. I know Blizzard have been long-time PC hold-outs and that makes sense with stuff like WoW and StarCraft, but this one has to end up ported to consoles eventually right? Surely it's too massive a market to ignore now?

Pretty sure they said they'd NEVER go console with a game like Diablo because it would simply break the control system (not to mention the feel) of the game.

Otherwise, looks good but man, this game is so far off. Half the questions that were asked in the open Q&A session were answered with "We'll get to that when we.. er.. get to that", wouldn't be holding my breath just yet...

AverageCowboy, read the interview I did with Leonard Boyarsky who broaches that very question, and believe me, it's not out of the question ;)

im betting on a 2011 release of d3. Theres a good reason for this speculation. Diablo fans have a good write up as to why they recon the magic will happen next year with a beta as early as feb/march

Just like torchlight?? The Diablo series has long been THE go to action RPG since the first game. Diablo 2 still has a strong player base (no matter how many are cheating)

Really looking forward to a few late night dungeon runs with a few mates on this one.

Also on the idea of going multi-platform again, i really don't think blizzard intend to try that again. I only half worked on the first Diablo, they didn't bother with the second one either. I think the difference between the console and PC versions control scheme would just make the console version feel clunky.

I doubt it'll be ready anywhere near that soon, one of the interviews I was watching for Blizzcon had one of the designer guys talking about how far along the game is, and he said big chunks of the single player campaign aren't even implemented yet, its just blocked out. Like you can go through the game from beginning to end, but a lot of it is just blocked out stuff, or a boss model that isn't animated that you hit once and get a message saying "You killed the boss". Doesn't sound like a game thats ramping up to release soon to me, sounds like a game thats still heavily, heavily in development.

Played a bit during BlizzCon - definitely a long way to go. Now I think I've made my anticipation worse, for the experience. :(

Simon Hacket from Internode is off to see if Blizzard will invest in some servers here.

“… its obvious that the best answer is in-country server facilities. If Blizzard wanted to re-engage with us on the notion of winding up with Blizzard server resources in our (extensively peered) data centre facilities, we’d be just thrilled. That door is still open, has been for years, and its not closed now.”

d3 just needs completely new content and the latest graphics over d2 for it to be flawless.

D2 was pretty boring hey, i really preferred how blizzard did classes in wow where synergies weren't directly listed but going into two tree's could be pretty cool for playing by yourself (although pointless for raiding etc). Like as a rogue - stunlocking enemies, or as a paladin, shieldblocking and aoeing. Mage, drinking and frostnova aoe'ing, hunter - pets' traps etc.

I think though it was because you only needed to deal with small groups of enemies of 2-4 hence saps, traps and sleep/sheeps could be possible without trouble allowing you to concentrate on spell rotations and stuff. So i guess it's not really applicable.

I just hope that its fluid.
