Shortly after the launch of StarCraft 2, Blizzard have published a reminder that they're still taking cheating seriously and that if you do it in StarCraft 2, you should expect harsh judgment to be meted out:
Blizzard Entertainment has always taken cheating in any form in Blizzard games very seriously, and that's no different for StarCraft II. If a StarCraft II player is found to be cheating or using hacks or modifications in any form, then as outlined in our end user license agreement, that player can be permanently banned from the game. This means that the player will be permanently unable to log in to Battle.net to play StarCraft II with his or her account.

Playing StarCraft II legitimately means playing with an unaltered game client. Doing otherwise violates our policies for Battle.net, and it goes against the spirit of fair play that all of our games are based on. We strongly recommend that you avoid using any hacks, cheats, or exploits. Suspensions and bans of players that have used or start using cheats and hacks will begin in the near future.
No doubt people will continue to push the envelope to catch and edge and inevitably be banned when they're caught. I'm having trouble staying alive for more than a few minutes in game, so it certainly seems easier to assume that everyone is cheating than the more likely reality - that they're all just way better than me.

I'm more concerned about addiction than cheaters... I have to wake up for work in 2.5 hours and I'm still up because of this bloody game! >:( Made it to 4v4 Platinum though! YAY FOR ME!

Seriously though, with so much of the game based on the Blizzard servers, how much control does the client-side actually have to implement decent hacks with a game like this? Seems like most of the communication the client sends to the server is limited to input commands, which if it were the case would count out most meaningfully effective hacks that I can think of?

thats the thing about battle.net i hate, if you get banned in one game, you lose access to all your games... pretty lame imo.

As long as only genuine cheaters are banned I don't see a problem with it? A cheater in one game seems much much more likely to attempt it in another in my opinion, plus it seems like a pretty damn good deterrent to cheating.

As someone that does not cheat, hates cheaters, and has spent a big chunk of the last 10 years dealing with people that think its fun to cheat in multiplayer games online, that is one of the things about battle.net that I love

i've read on another forum that any kind of keyboard or mouse bind/macro where 2+ actions are undertaken for only 1 click/button press is technically cheating. can't verify the truth of that though.

also +1 to trog.

If gamer gets caught using hacks in SC2 then he wont be able to get server and world firsts in absolutely everything when Cataclysm comes out. You know, because he's so f*****g awesome at the game.

I'm not talking about cheating and being banned, i'm talking about lame s*** like being reported 3 times for something like swearing or being racist and being banned from ALL your battle net account games. (lame example, but people can report you for pretty much anything that gets their backs up in wow and have you temp baned, 3 temp bans and then you get perm banned)
