The S2 Games crew have let us know that their DotA inspired strategy game Heroes of Newerth will be celebrating a "Free To Play Week" from August 2nd at 1:00 PM EST until Monday, August 9th at 1:00 PM EST - so for East Coast Australian's that's effectively from now until 3am next Tuesday, August 10th 2010.

Unlike the regular trial-play option, it appears that free players this week will have access to all paid game features except the cumulative stats:
You will have access to the full game and all 68 heroes, including the newest hero, Doctor Repulsor. You will be able to see all game replays, but no cumulative stats will be available for F2P accounts.
Interested parties can head over to the official website, and if you're looking for a local Aussie download for the game client, you can grab it right here from AusGamers files.

A word of warning before you depart though: the HoN community is particularly notorious for it's high ratio of intolerant dickwads to courteous and considerate players and said dickwads are no-doubt going to be particularly impressed with the influx of newbie free players, so tread carefully and don't take anything too personally.

Suitable replies to dickwads are, "thanks :)" and "you angry?".

I still have nightmares of joining games advertised as NOOB ONLY! and being subsequently abused and ignored for being a noob.

I still play this loads, is strangely addicitive, the learning curve is steep, with it being such a team oreintated game, any weak links show very quickly.

/me gets down on his knees and prays "Oh lord, please for this free period ensure that EVERY dickwad is ALWAYS teamed up with a noobie free player with the attitude suggested by XaartaX"

Seriously, people like this annoy the hell out of me. Natural Selection's active community dwindled to almost nothing thanks to new players always being flamed out of servers. How the hell else do you expect a community to grow???

i dont get why they dont FORCE game creators to set a min and max psr for games AND make sure the game creator THEMSELVE are within that psr rating.

So fucking over joining 1600-1600 games and the fucking host is a 1400 cock head.

Pretty much everything that's been said is the only reason I don't touch this game. I didn't think it was possible, but this games community is worse then the original DotA community.

Oh well, let the tards have their game. Like LOTUK said, if they're going to immaturely chastise new players for being..... new, then good luck keeping a healthy community. Actually... this free weekend seems like a good chance to get my troll on.

It really does have what I consider the most coarse (lack of a better word) community I have ever had the misfortune of being a part of.

The game itself is fantastic, you just have to play it with members of said community. Take the good with the bad I suppose.
