Sony's effort to create a single platform for all your entertainment comes one step closer today with the local launch of PlayTV, a HD personal video recording device, which also coincides with TV On Demand services for the PS3. A new TV icon will appear on the Xross Media Bar (clearly meaning you'll need to update your PS3, again) which will allow you to access streamed catch-up TV, record (with PlayTV) and even connect and watch remotely with the PSP or Sony Ericsson AINO mobiles.

PlayTV will set punters back a RRP of $169.95, while a new bundle with a 250GB PS3 and PlayTV has been put together for a RRP of $599.95.

The icon has been there for a few days, it's been allowing people to use iview.. which i must say has been an easy and enjoyable experience.

Whilst the content and speed of iView is great it's a pity the interface is horrible and nothing more than the PS3 browser in fullscreen. Let's hope there's an update to fix this in the future.

Just bought mine today. I could have bought one a few months ago on eBay but Im glad I waited.

You can get it for 148 online at Big W - and I recall somewhere that it said postage is free.
