Beginning their expansion into the Western market as a publisher, Square Enix have today announced a safe-bet with an all-new WWII RTS IP, Mi>Order of War, from Wargaming.net for the PC platform.
ORDER OF WAR will feature massive scale battles brought to life with a cinematic intensity never seen before in a WWII strategy game. Players will take command of an entire army including ground troops, artillery, tank divisions and aircraft in all out strategic assaults. The single-player mode can be played out in two campaigns – American versus German forces on the western front and German versus Russian on the eastern front - missions will be based on key historic events and operations from 1944.
Another WWII game on PC... hrm. Check out more from our

ViscoS - They're just publishing it. Square-Enix are really trying to grow as a publisher, which is why they bought Eidos.

Regardless, what era/theme can you do that has not been covered extensively? Steampunk? Heh actually that would be awesome now that I think about it. Mmmm steam tanks
I can understand why they don't want to go for something extreme first up, after all they don't have much experience with the western market, and if the game bombs - they pay. It's all well and good for us to sit in our chairs and complain about tired old cliques but making something new is hard. You can create this great game that is fun, awesome, everyone who plays it loves it - but at the end of the day doesn't sell well.
