Beginning their expansion into the Western market as a publisher, Square Enix have today announced a safe-bet with an all-new WWII RTS IP, Mi>Order of War, from Wargaming.net for the PC platform.
ORDER OF WAR will feature massive scale battles brought to life with a cinematic intensity never seen before in a WWII strategy game. Players will take command of an entire army including ground troops, artillery, tank divisions and aircraft in all out strategic assaults. The single-player mode can be played out in two campaigns American versus German forces on the western front and German versus Russian on the eastern front - missions will be based on key historic events and operations from 1944.
Another WWII game on PC... hrm. Check out more from our game page.

Are you sure it's real-time? Reading the press release it just says it's a strategy game, and given the track record of Wargaming.net there's a good chance it's turn-based.

ViscoS - They're just publishing it. Square-Enix are really trying to grow as a publisher, which is why they bought Eidos.

Still doesn't seem like a good move to me; WWII games have been very average of late.

We'll it's not like it is the first RTS they are doing, the other is Supreme Commander 2 which should be awesome :).

Regardless, what era/theme can you do that has not been covered extensively? Steampunk? Heh actually that would be awesome now that I think about it. Mmmm steam tanks

I can understand why they don't want to go for something extreme first up, after all they don't have much experience with the western market, and if the game bombs - they pay. It's all well and good for us to sit in our chairs and complain about tired old cliques but making something new is hard. You can create this great game that is fun, awesome, everyone who plays it loves it - but at the end of the day doesn't sell well.

But with all this epic scale, how are we going to have a line up of the feminine male protagonist with some deep issues in his past that only his rag tag group made up of "the illegally young skanky girl", "morally strong bald guy who pulls gay poses" and "Angsty 'angel-cry' McSadface" to help him save the world and himself?

After looking at this some more, I cant help but think its a tweaked Men of War, soming in September according to Steam, seems like a money grab, not that Men of War is not a great game.

Enemy units shoot through terrain, closed and removed at that point.
