Worms developer Team 17 have announced Alien Breed Evolution, a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 remake of the classic Amiga top-down shooter.
The Unreal3 powered next-gen title, part of Team17’s quality, independent digital line-up is a drop-dead gorgeous “retro-modern” remake of the game that helped Team17 burst onto the Amiga scene 18years ago.

Featuring an action packed, tense single player adventure and an absolute blast of a co-op game, Alien Breed Evolution helps raise the production bar on download-only titles and underlines Team17’s re-energised momentum since deciding to become an independent publisher in the digital distribution era.

That's about all the information we have at present, but given the recent Worm's releases, it looks likely that this will be another PlayStation Network/Xbox Live Arcade style release.

I wonder how it'll stack up when compared to Alien Swarm and Shadowgrounds.

Totally up for this. Hopefully there will be an option for local co-op as well as net based. Enjoyed Alien Swarm but predating that though was a great game on the original playstation called Loaded which seems a little similar, not that that's a bad thing.

Team 17 haven't announced what platforms it's on just yet.

Wasn't Alien Breed an FPS? Or is that top down view just concept art ...

Team 17 were cainers, so were Psygnosis back in the day.

Zy - The Alien Breed series was top-down, then they made Alien Breed 3D which was an FPS. The 3D games weren't very good.
Old Psygnosis games were pretty shit too, mostly style over substance. Before Wipeout in 1995, the best thing they'd released was Lemmings (and they were just the publisher, DMA Design developed it).

Ah true.

K well, Wipeout Fusion = win ... only car racing game I'll ever play.

So whoever designed Wipeout ... respect.
