Today Activision gave us our first official Aussie glimpse at DJ Hero with the DJ Hero controller. But on top of already beating out EA and Harmonix in the expansive world of electronic-based music, they also took the time to mention the expected Guitar Hero 5 as well as an all-new property Band Hero.
"Guitar Hero has made music social again and has become one of the most popular ways to experience music," said Dan Rosensweig, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Guitar Hero franchise. "Today's fans enjoy a variety of music and are looking for more ways to engage with their favorite songs, artists and fellow fans. These games will let them listen, participate and socialise with music in ways they have never
been able to before."
For the full skinny on the games, check out the press release. You can also have a look at the DJ Hero decks by clicking here.

I wonder if the deck actually spins given the buttons are on the turn-table??

Looks doubtful.

I'd say it will turn a little bit, otherwise there would only be 3 inputs.I'm guessing it will be Button + Button + Button + Twist up + Twist down.

That would put it in line with the other peripherals.

Could be spring loaded and gives you 15 degress of rotation etc. Fucking stupid places for buttons anyway.

so.. with guitar hero you 'score' by striking the right notes at the right time by following video prompts... how do you score in dj hero? by beatmatching (which would be pretty lame) or by mixing at the same time as some preconcieved mix?

or is it like real dj'ing where ya just slap 2 tracks together however ya feel like & how much the drunk crowd appreciate it is dependant more on thier intoxication & the hype ;]

if it's coming out of the US it's probable more hip hop DJing or whatever, so it's probably all about the mad scratches or some shit

also hardware fails, there's no chin-stroking or train-spotting buttons, or any button to make your dude be a giant queer like this:

...DJ Hero...

Right... give me some of whatever they were on to think this was a good idea.

If it plays anything like Beatmania, it will be basically the exact same mechanic as Guitar Hero with different inputs.

If you're unfamiliar with Beatmania, it has a manually-rotatable deck + a bunch of buttons. Moving the deck back or forth counts as a button press, and the other buttons work just like buttons, so its more like playing a weird, limited piano.

They saw Beatmania IIDX 1 - 16 do great in japan and thought "Hey we can rip that off and release it here!". And it will prolly do well...ish. I expect the controller to look somewhat similar too.

And a video of Beatmania 15 Troopers - Mendes. The mode he is playing in, Black Another, is pretty much designed to make even the best players fail.

The controls look fundamentally different in a few places, but damn that looked skilled. Thanks for showing me, I'm just not sure I see them pulling it off well with a western audience.
