Some serious development time has left Killzone 2 not only looking absolutely stunning, but also showing off the sheer power of the PS3 in the right hands.

Modern FPS gaming comes wrapped alongside the splendid presentation with a few issues that probably should have been broached for the final product, but it doesn't stop the game from being a must-have for PS3 owners, and third among our 2009 review roll out.

If you own a PS3, you're going to be interested in this, so hit this link for our full review, and this one for our associated game page.

Sweet, good to hear it stood up to the test of the hype. I dug playing this at LGC (only got a taste of MP) and thought it definitely had some legs (as far as console FPS games go anyway :)

Nice review. I really want to have a bash at this one. From what I understand, there is no cover system in multiplayer? Making the pacing between offline and online play very different. Did you prefer one over the other? Also, does the xp you gain unlock any weapons like CoD4 or just a ranking system like halo3?

I think the 23rd if I remembered right. That or you could just import the US version as PS3 doesn't have region coding

We're actually getting Killzone before the US, IGN.com had an article about it. I think XP unlocks badges or something similar, where you can mix and match abilities for whatever class you're playing as.

Demo is now available for download from Playstation 3 store for free............around a gig from recollection, but have yet to download and play it personally. Will definitely be doing so before shelling out the hard-earned.

The demo was extremely short, I guess a 1.2 gig download doesn't buy you much gameplay these days. It was so short, I hadn't even really formed an opinion of the game by the time it finished. I mean, it looked very pretty, and it had a pretty intense "you're in the middle of a warzone" feeling for the couple of minutes I was playing, but I was still getting the hang of it when the demo came to an abrupt end.

From the 10 minutes or so I played, it seemed like its trying to borrow some of Gears of War "get behind cover, pop up and shoot people" gunplay, but done from an FPS point of view, and I'm not entirely sure I liked it. It also seems like you can only carry one gun at a time, which just pissed me off, I guess its more "realistic" or something, and I've played games that have a similar system before and not really minded, but I guess it was really obvious to me after coming off Fallout 3 where I could carry around enough guns and ammunition to kill the entire world, twice.

I ended up running around shooting people with my pistol in the Killzone demo just for some variation because it was getting so boring using the same assault rifle all the time. Theres the obligatory bit where someone yells at you to grab the conviniently left behind rocket launcher and shoot the big fortified thing thats killing all the troops, which provides some variation for all of 30 seconds or so, then its back to your assault rifle again. Your only other option is to swap your assault rifle, for the assault rifles the bad guys drop when they die, which look pretty much exactly like your assault rifle but don't have a scope, so they're actually worse.

I dunno, its hard to form a proper opinion after playing such a small slice of the game, and I'm sure (I hope?) there will be plenty more interesting guns to use in the full version, but if these things bugged me after playing a 10 minute slice of it, how much are they gonna bug me when playing the whole game?

Entirely agree with Khel for the most part - it is too short a demo to form a decent opinion. It looks gorgeous and stretches the PS3's power in doing so. I think I'll go ahead and trade a few other games in and buy it, but a longer demo would have been so much better. Also found the controls a little bit cumbersome, but expect this to improve over more gameplay time.
Most definitely one of the best looking games I've come across - for me, it's more about buy this, buy FEAR 2 or be foolish and try to buy both :)
