According to a report over at
Kotaku, Activision Blizzard may be looking at creating a subscription service for their GuitR Hero Tunes service, the platform by which Guitar Hero World Tour users can upload their personally generated songs for other users to listen to and download.
"The ability to offer these songs on a subscription basis may very well result in the newest subscription opportunity in our portfolio," said CEO, Bobby Kotick.
Whether or not this subscription service could eventually include an iTunes-esque artist download page for new tracks (as opposed to the current "track pack" DLC model) remains to be
seen, but would make sense, allowing users to
choose their own content.
Guitar Hero World Tour is due to hit Australian store shelves in just under two weeks, while EA's long overdue Rock Band finally hit Aussie shores this week. Stay tuned to AusGamers for a full review of Guitar Hero World Tour closer to the game's release.

I'm picking RB over GHWT because I heard the drum kit and guitars have a really high failure rate and often come out of the box busted or on the verge of being broken so after a few hours they die. RBs had a whole year to counter this so i'll be willing to bet they will be better quality. I'll still buy GHWT but only the game because it automaticly recognizes the RB drum set and changes to 4 notes. Then all i'll have to do is import RB2 when it hits the UK

$190 is just the instrument pack, $229 with the game as well. For some bizarre reason they're sold separately here, but JB still does a bundled price. EB on the other hand will hit you up $250 for the peripherals and another $100 for the game.

I think this time around GHWT has the superior guitar so maybe that's worth considering. If I was buying both, I'd probably go with the GHWT bundle for the better instruments and pick up just the rock band disc.
If I had to choose just one, at this stage it would be have to be Rock Band, simply because I think what they've done so far in terms of downloadable content completely blows GH away and that Metallica album in Guitar Hero was over 1GB, for 12 songs. Rock Band tracks are far more reasonable in size. With NXE coming out and HDD game installs, I can't spare that kind of space for DLC anymore.
The fact that you can play RB1 songs in RB2 is a big winner too. At least it will be when a PAL version eventually gets released.

Suddenly the biggest feature separating these two games is looking like a dildo.
I hope that this is just a replacement model for the activision-released titles, or activion approved titles with a revenue stream back to the creator.
