Non-profit org Electronic Frontiers Australia have launched a new web-site as part of a campaign to lobby the Australian State and Territory Attorneys-General about the missing R18+ category for games.
An R18+ classification would require the unanimous support of all Attorneys-General, and in the past moves to change the current classification have been blocked on the vote of a single state Attorney-General.

EFA is now sponsoring a campaign to have the R18+ classification for games introduced in Australia.
r18games.com will serve as a collation for the news and details supporting that campaign as well as a discussion forum and point of reference if you're thinking about writing to your State or Territory's Attorney-General.

FYI nf, nic suzor (friend of mine/trog and QGL regular when there were still lans) is running the site, and presumably moderating the forums, so try not to be too harsh.

That goes for the rest of you too! :)

Oh I'm sure he is. It was more of a courtesy "don't be a jerk over there because I think what they're trying to do is a good thing and they don't need people from here shitting it up" not that any of you would of course.

I thought of a flawless argument.

They have issues with giving an R18+ because, no matter how many adults play games, they're still perceived as the sort of thing that attracts children right?

Well by that definition shouldn't half the anime world be shut down and banned? Urotsikidoshi, Ninja Scroll and the like? Clearly cartoons would have the same pied piper affect on kids as games...

Anime is targetted at kids. Was anyone over the age of 18 when they watched ninja scroll?

yes. and there's an R18+ rating for anime - that's the point. If they were to see the parallels, they'd either remove the R18+ rating from anime and start banning it, or they'd see the error of their ways and give games an R18+ rating (and anime girls would be real and I would be happy, like a flying pig)

It's probably worth posting about the recent news reported from Screenplay about South Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson withdrawing his support for a discussion paper and public consultation on the R18+ rating, and therefore pretty much halting any progress for the classification for the meantime.

I wasn't but i'm 20 now and more into anime than i ever was before. There are anime's that are targeted for all audiences just like there are non-cartoon tv shows targeted for all audiences.

Thats pathetic that he won't even let there be a discussion on the matter. Whats he afraid of, that when its discussed the people who are for it will actually make sense and blow away all his fudd and misinformation? Can't have that now can we.

It is pretty weaksauce that he wont have a discussion. I think it should take more then ONE person to stop something affecting a nation.
