On day one of the Tokyo Game Show press days, Microsoft not only showed off more of their New Xbox Experience, they also decided to reveal an update to the Halo franchise in the form of an expansion (of sorts) for Halo 3 called Halo 3: Recon with a pretty intense trailer (this is also stemming from online hints and propaganda from Bungie from the past few months).

Despite the fact TGS seems an unlikely place for such an unveiling (the Japanese could care less about FPS), the video shown and info made available does suggest this - albeit an expansion - could be just what the doctor ordered for Halo fans and Microsoft in general (since CoD4 pretty much left Halo 3 multiplayer at the post).

One of the most interesting things about this new Halo entrant sees you not playing through as Master Chief, but as a young Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST). With this new main character you'll play through events that lead up to the Chief's eventual return that sparked the intro to Halo 3 (making this a prequel to that game, of sorts) giving the story some flesh, but also shifting up the perspective a bit.

Beyond playing through as someone other that Master Chief, not much more is known other than the game will also pack a bunch of all-new multiplayer features. We'll be keeping our ears to the ground for anything new though, so stay tuned.
