Wired have a cool piece up pointing out the potential of modders who go for simple, rather than complex.

Using World of WarCraft's mod tools, a Uni student by the name of Michael Fromwiller, made his own version of the popular puzzle game Bejeweled (which he called Besharded) that seemed so fitting, Bejeweled publisher, PopCap, contacted him and offered him a job creating an official Bejeweled add-on for World of WarCraft.

Fromwiller said he created the original mod because it "could cure plenty of hours of boredom." Neat.

If an OP is written in way that's not news post friendly without too much editing, then it won't be promoted as an AG news item and a new thread will be started instead.

They can, but using publisher provided text is different to quoting a chunk from another news site. If he had have described more in his own words, and quoted a smaller passage, or quoted from a press release, I probably would have promoted it.

It's all discretionary, but my personal view is that it's bad form to do a news post that has more verbatim content from another site than you're providing yourself.
