Kotaku have pointed out the EB Games website has prices up for Rock Band ahead of its eventual (and long overdue) release here in Australia citing $289.95 for the drum kit, guitar and mic alone. The game will then come in at $119.95 and if you want an extra guitar to have the full band rocking, it's another $109.95. That's a lot of clams.

What makes all of this worse is Rock Band 2 is on the horizon elsewhere, while Activision's Guitar Hero World Tour, though not officially priced here yet, is also just around the corner. Decisions, decisions. Apparently, to add insult to injury for EA, there are reports of Aussie retailers not being interested in stocking the original Rock Band at all due to it's size and price point. Whether this carries across Nation-wide though is not known.

In the meantime, we've secured a copy of the original game on both Wii and Xbox 360 and will be working on giving you the skinny about both in the not-too distant future, so stay tuned.

I messed around with this with a couple of friends while I was in the US. It's a heap of fun but they didn't pay anywhere near that price for it. I can't remember the exact figure they gave me but I do remember it wasn't anything like the quoted price above.

boycott it imo, or buy guitar hero instead.

Yeah, its about $190 in the US, thats what I got mine for, and thats the game plus the drums, guitar and mic. I don't think anyone was ever expecting it to be priced reasonably over here though, will be interesting to see what price point activision set for guitar hero world tour over here considering they charged $170 for just a game and 1 guitar in the past.

The girlfriend tells me that EB aren't even bothering to get it in stock, If someone wants it, they have to give a down payment and get it ordered in. I've read that other retailers aren't even bothering to do that.

I've heard the story about EB not wanting to stock it too - Purely based on the size of the damn thing, plus the fact you have to rebuy the guitars & stuff, whereas GH4 will work with the old guitar controllers fine.

rockband works fine with GH controllers.

I enjoy it but Would not pay the near 400 for it, it does get old after a while. + The network code sucks major, Can't play with others on xbox live in a game with more than one other person. Otherwise you get MAJOR mic lag.

Yeah, 360 rock band works fine with guitar hero controllers, its only the ps3 one that doesn't work with guitar hero controllers, and only cos Activision are cunts.

Not on the PS3 it doesn't.

GH:WT = win purely for the ability to make your own songs. Gets around the whole music industry schemozzle.

why would you both just getting something into stock as it's sequel is going to be released pretty soon

It's really sad that places may not even bother to stock it. The only reason i'm not jumping on the GH:WT bandwagon is that when you look at GH3's download content, its bloody shocking. Rock Band has like how many songs? like 150? GH3 has like 30. When I get enough money i'm gonna find some place on ebay that will ship a set of drums, and buy the UK version of RB. Will still be cheaper than buying the game when it finally gets released here it seems

The chequered history of Rock Band in Australia could be set to take yet another turn, as an undisclosed retail source told us today that the game's release may be delayed indefinitely. Word is that retail buyers simply aren't interested in stocking a bulky product that's a year old and will cost more than its similarly bulky – and up to date - competitor Guitar Hero: World Tour.

Has anybody (EA, Harmonix, or whoever else) ever mentioned the reason it was delayed this long anyway? Production costs of the instruments or just short supply?

what i heard is that they couldnt make enough instruments

Yeah, I'm guessing it was just a production or logistics thing, EA not experienced enough in the plastic instrument making business.

I was suprised to see RB in my local Gametraders store, and at $400 for the works too. Turns out he's been importing the PS3 version for months since it's region free. I'll still hold out for GH:WT though as I'm pretty pissed I can't use the GH guitar.

Sorry khel are you that retarded ? Logistics ? ie. Shipping ?

You were able to get it shipped here from over seas for less then they could manage and they would be shipping them over in a container (bulk discount and shit).

As for the no experience making plastic shit... may their franchise rest in pieces

There is no reason just excuses.
