id Software have officially announced Doom 4, the next addition to their flagship first person shooter series that helped paved the way for the genre some fifteen years ago. Details on the game are scant, but they're hiring.id Software is expanding its internal team and is currently hiring to work on this highly anticipated title.Let's hope it's a little more well-lit than the last one. Comments:Needs frog to work on their AI.
Needs less shitkunts like you to not play their AI.
needs co-op from the ground up.
I think the fact that they're re-hashing Doom again indicates their emphasis on technology rather than gaming. It would be nice to see them create a (mostly) new concept that still fits in to the FPS genre.
needs to be about the game, not the technology.
needs co-op from the ground up. qft. i hope it's even darker & ya only have half a box of matches :D I think everyone that hated doom3 should go back now and play it on a proper machine. It kicks ass!
id tech 5! id tech 5!
what the hell! Where did this come from.
Also - will it be PC :| God I hope it's not set on Mars again
Aslong as Raven doesn't touch it, lololol Quake 4 lololol
needs to be about the game, not the technology.Oh Valve Software you cards. last edited by scuzzy at 09:53:35 08/May/08 I think everyone that hated doom3 should go back now and play it on a proper machine. It kicks ass! No, it really doesn't. Angry casa
Frogbots will one day rule the planet. hook line and sinker
I think everyone that hated doom3 should go back now and play it on a proper machine. It kicks ass!No, it really doesn't. Yeah, pretty much. I put the demo on after upgrading to my new PC and it looked mediocre. I saw the headline and immediately thought "they're a bit late for April 1st"
Seriously, how much work needs to be done to deconstruct the massive stigma held against them for Doom 3's infamy? Also, what happened to 'Rage?' Doom 3 rocked (one of the best gaming experiences EVER), Hoping Doom 4 continues down the path of scary and atmospheric game play.
Geez I hope its better than d3.
Casa, you need to learn what a fish looks like.
Giri .. worst troll ever An early production screenshot for doom 4
needs less dark
i never bothered to finish doom 3, so 4 can only get better from that.
asif giri was trolling. i liked & played right thru doom3 & doom3:roe as did a lot of people i know & it was the awesomeness. too dark.. pfft you little girls, go back to your lame war-sims with square box rooms if ya can't take a bit of darkness. :D
I personally would like to see Doom 4 go back to it's roots with the old style gameplay we came to love doom and doom 2 for. Running around, killing many many monster trying to find cards to open doors. They could make it really really complex now and they could really even make it continue right after doom 2 did.
You've gone to hell, killed the leader there and you come back to earth and now you gotta clean up the remaining forces left that are straggling around trying to finish the job while you've been gone. sounds simple enough to work for me. Also I did like doom 3 but it didn't feel too much like a doom game to me. take away the monsters and its a totally different game DM: play some serious sam! a billion monsters! aww yeh!! just recently had a 5 player lan with SS2 and it was a heap of fun!
Keeping on topic..Doom 4..meh :I I resent your calling us little girls demon
having a pussy and wearing a skirt while being scared of the dark doesn't make us girls, clearly you don't know anything about political correctness clearly, however resentment was what i was hoping for, maybe a little bit of 'am not' would also have been appreciated.
get fucked!
aha obes
i agree with most that d3 was too dark, but it wasnt hard to overcome. IMO it was an awesome game that had me hooked. I have played through it so many times, i especially love the plasma gun, it kicked ass.
I dunno if its just me but the mouse control felt weird in d3 also the enemies were really easy. It wasn't the darkness in Doom 3 that put me off, it was the fact it was a boring, repetitive game. I forced myself to finish it, just so I could see the cyberdemon, but I really didn't enjoy it much. The hell level was pretty sweet, but then it was back to the boring drudgery of shiny metal walls and floors and dark corners and the same monsters jumping out from behind the same doors ad nauseum.
They need to learn a bit about building suspense and making a game scary. Usually what makes it scary is what you don't see, and what doesn't happen, rather than what is in front of you. Opening a door that you're SURE something is going to jump out at you from behind, and then, nothing jumps out. Hearing sounds or seeing something half glimpsed in the distance, but then when you get there, theres nothing there. It builds up, and it gets under your skin, and because you don't have the release of something jumping out at you, the uneasyness is compounded, to the point where you're jumping at strange shadows on the wall. The start bits of Doom 3 were like this, and I really dug it, but then it just turned into crap. last edited by Khel at 12:38:50 08/May/08 obes no you get fucked buddy :D
i do agree that doom3 was too repetitive with it's imps n zombies, but that just made the bits with other monsters better... especially the bits that would have been cut-scenes in older games but in the d3 engine they rendered into the gameplay. also, what fps isn't repetitive with it's enemies? there mighta been too many imps... but at least they looked fkn awesome with complex models & awesome skins... *cough* hl2 bugs are just a bunch of triangles *cough* :D last edited by demon at 13:11:11 08/May/08 I found Doom 3 to be repetitive, boring and monster placement pretty predictable. So there was very little suspense. It could have been much better, but is wasn't.
Also, it should have been Co-op from ground up. Hopefully id are hearing the public and Doom 4 will be. What Khel said.
I can't wait to play delta labs level 8. I personally would like to see Doom 4 go back to it's roots with the old style gameplay we came to love doom and doom 2 for. Running around, killing many many monster trying to find cards to open doors. They could make it really really complex now and they could really even make it continue right after doom 2 did. Surely someone would have ported the Doom1&2 levels to the Doom3 engine by now? Co-op ftw.
/agree with khel
The darkness was fun to whine about, but ultimately the gameplay was just a bit lame. Once I got over the awesomeness of it with 5.1 sound I found it repetitive like everyone else.
I hope they go in a different direction for this (doubt they will). FPS games in general are a bit dull at the moment. No, you Get Fucked!
Doom3 was kinda like the SW Pre-quel trilogy .. it looked a bit like Doom but it wasnt. All of the relentless, viceral awesomeness of Doom2 was missing and it had some fundamental flaws which we are all sick of talking about.
It makes me sad that iD have to resort to recycling all their franchises can't they think of something new? At least Doom3 didnt have Jar Jar Binks and it didnt take my childhood and stomp on it. quake5?
also whats happening with the next wolfenstein game? I'd really like nothing else to see them expanded on the quake 2 / 4 / quake wars universe.
Pretty much when the humans made contact witht the strogg. Id software have my thumbs up for sci-fi action games :) Just watch the intro move from quake 2, still stands out as one of the best intro's ever. plus they do fuckin awesome radio coms chatter. last edited by thraxjor at 15:23:58 08/May/08 Giri .. worst troll ever What troll obes? unlike alot of people i didn't sit around having a sad about ONOES FLASHlIGHT i got into the atmosphere of the game and had a really good game experience. It was scary and had good suspense, not saying it can't be done better, but it was a good game none the less. Some people don't need the internet to tell them how to play a game or to think. ps, get fucked on a treadmill! Heh, I'm still yet to play doom 3 all the way through, shit pc for the loss. Co-op would be sexy though, still, System Shock 2 is scores better.
^ yeh I must agree System Shock2 was pretty good even with its crappy low poly graphics.
Man that Quake2 intro brings back memories. What was the story of Quake again? Oooooh man I can remember playing the original... faaark those were the days... when you were happy to shrink your screen down a little so the game would run more smoothly, because you were THAT keen on playing the game instead of just looking at the glossiness of it all.

See casa, that is how you fish is carmack involved? im sure hes got one last engine in his ear
What was the story of Quake again?hahahaa! And yeah, that intro to Q2 was fucking awesome. I just sat there dumbfounded at the time... hahahaa! And yeah, that intro to Q2 was fucking awesome. I just sat there dumbfounded at the time...Same, still my favourite game vid/intro of all time. Was pretty funny how they went from quake with virtually no discernible storyline at all to this awesomeness in one game. Also, Doom3 did indeed rock, but as has been said repeatedly above, it really missed that massive rooms full of monsters to kill thing the originals had going. They should have created a new IP for id tech 4, something even scarier! :O D: Either way Doom 4 should be great, looking forward to it! (Also looking forward to RtCW2 and RAGE!! Hurry up id!) I thought I read somewhere that Paul Steed did the Quake 2 intro in his spare time (or did I hear that at the Q2 preview night at the Carlton Crest?)
yo, ID, sign me up beta testing kthxbi.
Yay, another game for id to fail dismally at.
See casa, that is how you fish Giri isn't a very good example, it's like taking candy from a baby. you should all grab quake and download seal of nehara.. that puts a story to it :) over about 4 hours tho :)
I thought I read somewhere that Paul Steed did the Quake 2 intro in his spare time (or did I hear that at the Q2 preview night at the Carlton Crest?) I thought that was Quake 3 that just got whipped up? trog and I were also at that Carlton Crest thingo btw;) |
