DICE and EA have released the first trailer from Mirror's Edge. This perhaps inaptly named "teaser trailer" shows off some tasty gameplay from the colourful upcoming title. We want to change the way that players are able to move in first person. No more restrictions, no more being blocked by simple barriers such as walls and fences. We want to enable the player to move like a real person, with the ability to run, jump, vault and slide in a way that has never been seen before in a first person game.Check it out right here on AusGamers. Comments:interesting
this looks rad
This looked pretty cool, saw this at GDC - some of my thoughts
Yeah, I think it looks pretty rad, provided you can turn off all that panting. That'd get annoying.
i dunno about you, but i enjoy hearing the pants of dashing young female.
^^ If there's no sex involved, it's not interesting.
looks good yeah.
Looks really good!
last edited by Phooks at 21:39:03 07/May/08 I like the gameplay idea but the environments are a bit too clean and bright for my liking.
looks awsome.
its just like real parkour! i wonder if itll live up to the reputation of other DICE titles
I hope they don't put any in-game advertising inside it. That would just piss me off.
the success of this game is going to be all about the controls. If they get that right it'll rock.
I think for the controls to work, they'll have to be very simple. Something along the lines of run, and jump, and that's about it. Maybe a button to drop down to. Really really good context sensitivity, a step above Assassin's Creed, would make this.

If they get that right it'll rock. The demo I saw pointed out the simplicity of the controls; I can't remember the details but it was a really big focus of the demonstration. I think there's like just movement and one action button or something. ^^ That's what I was getting at. I'm glad to hear that's the direction they're going in.
so do you envisage that you would balance as you walk across that pole, or you just press forward and it pretends to wobble you like you might fall but there's that's not going to happen?
You choose to get across the ledge by running up the wall, or you just pressed your action button and actually expected some crazy jump but the action button at that obstacle runs you up the wall instead of doing a sprawling jump. If that's what's intended i'm less interested. I think there's like just movement and one action button or something. im guessing it will be similar to assassins creed. you only needed to use 1-3 buttons to get around everywhere. Looks awesome, but so did assassins creed.
