The Hardy Heron release - or v8.04 - of Ubuntu Linux has landed! Check out the feature overview page for a good look at what's inside the new release of this popular free operating system.
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS raises the bar on the Linux desktop experience. It includes the latest, stable version of many core products, and in that spirit is the first distribution to bring Mozilla Firefox 3 (Beta 5) to millions of users. The combination of Linux and Firefox make Ubuntu 8.04 LTS a superb web desktop, with fast browsing and greatly reduced exposure to viruses, web forgery and spyware.
This is also a Long Term Support (LTS) release, meaning it will be officially supported for the next three years. We've got local mirrors of the Desktop ISOs for i386 and AMD64; check your local mirror for all the other versions.

If you're just interesting in checking it out, you can either just burn the ISO to a disc and boot off it, or install it easily along side your Windows installation.

that 4/256 is wrong; ignore it. It is apparently getting worked. I'll fire up another server.

edit: try restarting your download from the page, you should get a new/fast URL

Can't you just run some command line thing to upgrade?

not advisable if you've gone heavy with custom scripts - as I've just found out with my EeePC. getting the fkn wireless to work has done my head in today

if it's just a test box you're running then just reinstall from scratch I reckon

I've always just upgraded with "sudo aptitude dist-upgrade" after adjusting my /etc/apt/sources.list , but https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades reckons you can use "sudo do-release-upgrade" for an ubuntu tool that supposedly better handles it
