The Age's Screenplay blog bears word that yet another title has received the big RC due to Australia's lack of an R18+ rating for video games.
Activision's Soldier of Fortune: Payback has become the second game this year to be refused classification by the Office of Film and Literature Classification.

The game was to be released in early 2008 on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

The ban comes at a time when the Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia is stepping up is campaign for the introduction of an R18+ classification as the country heads towards next month's federal election.

The IEAA says Australia is the only developed democracy in the world without a R18+ classification for games, ensuring titles which exceed the limits of the MA15+ category are refused classification and banned from sale.

Article

Here's hoping the R18+ rating finally gets passed this time around. Might be an interesting situation if a game like this being banned from being sold in Aus ends up being distributed over a system like Steam though.

*shrugs* I buy my games overseas anyway as it's cheaper so this ban doesn't effect me as i've imported other games that were banned here as well. I just find it bizarre how they can ban a game when there is movies out there that are more graphically violent and realistic than any game i've ever played, oh yeah and all the hardcore porno that you can just walk into a shop and buy as well, not like that gets banned from sales. It's time they made an r18+ classification instead of just banning games.

The elite adult minds at the classification office who bravely review all try to control everything that you see and hear. This bunch of ass wipes is seeking out how to control our internet also.

Sheep who think theyre adults, lol.

Nice to see the god fearing child overboard bearing Phillip Ruddock QC is hard at work again. No irony for Amnesty International and belonging to it.

http://www.aph.gov.au/house/members/member.asp?id=0J4 - Write to this man... Tell him we want an R18+ classification bill for Australian games and not just MA15+ or AV15+...

http://www.aph.gov.au/house/members/memfeedback.asp?id=0J4 - Write feedback and tell them.

It is not actually John Howard, that has a say in the OFLC. It's Ruddock. It has always been Ruddock and it always will be, for the time being, Ruddock.

These guys:

are just the pawns to the pollie power.

Need we say more?

There it is in black and white. Go get him. Tell him we want *cough* we are desperate *cough* for a R18+ classification. This is a perfect opportunity to "capri diem" because they've let the previous two computer games into Australia. If they can let the previous to in. Why not this one? WHY NOT? Demand it to be known. Why they aren't letting this one into the country. Is it because its too real? and if it looks too real. Then fire back and ask. What's going to happen in the near future when other video games that look "too realistic, too violent, too sexual, too whatever" that get published overseas. But won't be published here in Australia cause our rating system bites the bullet.

Although on another forum not mentioned here some people thought that the reshuffle of the OFLC back in 2002/2003 was related to some South Australian attorney general and Family First. Once again I still think its Ruddock cause where there is smoke there is always fire and I can smell the smoke a mile away.

After a fashion Im glad there are guidelines:

But the R18+ rating is still needed and this being an election year. Wait... Did we just say ELECTION YEAR? My doesn't time fly *grins evilly* could be the perfect opportunity for certain people to enact *cough* seize upon things *cough* certain things.
