Sony have
formally announced the first much-speculated price drop for the PlayStation 3 - in the USA. Basically they've dropped US$100 off the price tag - so it's a little cheaper, but not that much. They've also got mention of a new 80GB model.
We've asked Sony Australia to see if we can get some more information about what is happening on our side of the pond, but they have "no announcements to make at this time", so we might have to wait for a bit longer.

Considering a Blue Ray player is ~ $400 in the US and they're suposedly selling at a loss, imagine what the PS3 is costing them..."
yeah, im sure sony is just swimming in debt at the moment, if they not careful, they might go broke.
(please note the inasane amounts of sarcasm)
So what if they sell at a loss, most consoles do to start off with.
Personally i think sony's biggest mistake is putting too much copy protection in. The whole reason the ps2 was such a big seller was the fact that *everyone* chipped the hell out of em and had hundreds of games.. with occasionally buying a legit one.. and thats why they are still selling.
sony should release a whole bunch of free games online like a good 10-15 free games. and watch people snap up the console. at that point they win the console war, and then watch the game sales sky rocket after 6months when the good games come out and were sick of the free ones.

So that's a stupid idea.

I enjoy my PS2, but with the amount of crap Sony has paid to us in the last few years, i really hope their ship sinks.
It won't...but heres to hoping!!
