A new trailer has been released for Grand Theft Auto 4. Check it out. A bit of the storyline is revealed and you get to see some more of the lush visuals that will be on offer in the next-gen release of one of the most popular gaming brands ever.
For starters, rockstar are definately not sell-outs, they are one of the few companies that continues to make games that push the boundaries, not always the right boundaries but still, the fact that they were most likely "forced" into a contract with microsoft doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
It's the way microsoft operates by throwing money at things until they fold, else if they can't claim a favourable contract, they'll do what they did with software developers like RARE and buy them out.
Secondly, Grand Theft Auto 2 sold 1.15 million units in US alone, the GTA franchise has sold over 50 million copies of which only ~38 million are from the GTA 3 series.
There's no question of Sony also not being evil, just look at the PS3...that's evil.
However, it stands that Microsoft is the greater of the two evils simply because they CAN throw more money at companies, and like i said before, one way or another Microsoft would have forced an arrangement for the game, infact Microsoft paid them to release "online only" content for the X360, so uhhh yeah both companies = evil...
Also, to be a "sell-out" is to compromise your integrity for a profit, now forgive me if im wrong, but rockstar never announced that they would release the game on all platforms simultaneously ergo they didn't compromise they're integrity, except like GTA 3 which i believe had an iffy period with the PS2.
I think people are finding things in my comments that do not exist.
I never claimed Sony don't also use similar tactics to Microsoft, all i said was MS is the more capable of such behaviour, the fact you all seem happy to read non-existant connotations to my comments is bizarre.
I am not a fan-boy for either company, so i'm not going to argue favour for either.
However, as many people, i tend to demonize Microsoft, mainly for their monopolisitc business practices, which is how i view the way they are acting with all the "exclusive" titles they are buying.
And while it's true its nothing new in gaming, as Khel said Sony have done it for years, it worries me when a company KNOWN for a strong approach to monopolistic business ethics, starts on the "exclusive" band-wagon.
You can mock me now, but one day when MicrosoftGoogleMyspaceYoutube becomes a company, thats when its over.
