John Carmack has demonstrated new id technology ('id Tech 5') at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference:
id Software's co-founder and technical director, John Carmack, demonstrated id Tech 5 during the keynote address and commented, "The new id rendering technology practically eliminates the texture memory constraints typically placed on artists and designers and allows for the unique customization of the entire game world at the pixel level, delivering virtually unlimited visual fidelity. Combined with a powerful new suite of tools designed specifically to facilitate and accelerate the content creation process, id Tech 5 will power games that contain vast outdoor landscapes that are completely unique to the horizon, yet have indoor environments with unprecedented artistic detail. The new technology was demonstrated on a Macintosh (the press release makes proud mention of the fact that "many developers at id have made the switch to the Mac for their personal use"), but will be available for developing games on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as well. There's a blurrycam YouTube with some footage of the engine in action as a racing game title. Tags: id software / carmack

Of course everyone knows JC (thats John Carmack for the newcomers) led a team to develop Tech5 in just 10 days. Amazing stuff right thurrr.

Yeah but the end result is a bit buggy and glitchy.
Like I go to the pub and there's a bit of lag and I wake up somewhere completely different the next morning. Without my pants.

Oh cool so instead of 15 intro logos we instead have 15 minutes of pre-game pixel-perfect engine-rendered ads.
(And if I could put more hyphens in my post I would!)
