Blizzard have snuck out some information about new features in the next World of Warcraft update:

The next patch for World of Warcraft will include some significant new feature updates to player-vs.-player (PvP) gameplay � namely, objective-based world PvP and cross-realm battlegrounds. Although details of these features are subject to change during development, we�d like to provide you with a general idea of what to expect.
