Security expert Bruce Schneier has written up a good summary of the Sony DRM Saga, covering what has happened so far. It offers a great overview as to how boned Sony are (the latest investigations has revealed that the rootkit includes GPL'ed code!), but it also highlights what Schneier considers to be the "real story" here:

The story to pay attention to here is the collusion between big media companies who try to control what we do on our computers and computer-security companies who are supposed to be protecting us.

Interesting read that asks some insightful questions.
