An anonymous user just let us know that Shacknews have some more information about the Half-Life 2 source leak from Gabe Newell at Valve - Scary has apparently confirmed this via a phone call to ensure its legitimacy. Check it out over at Shacknews. The information released seems (somewhat suprisingly) open with Gabe going into some detail about the attack and what they're doing in response.

Still no word on if this will affect the release schedule at all. Stay tuned!

If this is true, I cant see this being a cheap publicity stunt unless they have a good plan to stop cheats.
Probably a hacker or a pissed and shat on employee striking revenge.
Game could be stuffed !

beats me why devs mention dates at all these days.. they always freakin slip.

work in secret on the bastard, 6 months from the 'expected' launch release some pics and a few movies etc, each month release a handful more pics to keep the press/fanboys happy, still never mention dates and just release more media until you are 1000% frikkin sure its finished and have the gold master sitting in your chubby fingers. then announce a release date.

thats how to do it ya bastards :D stop agonising and pissing off the 'gaming community' with vaporware, lack of details on projects we know you are working on, and ever slipping release dates.

Yeah well, to be quite honest im glad valve finally got the kick in the face they deserved. 'part of the community' ...Gabe, u are obviously a much better comedian than we all thought. As part of the community you'd think that would entail 'commuunication' with the community. However all we awaiting suckers have done is sit back and think 'YEH TF2 end of 2001' , have the date come and go and still be here two years down the track with little to none information about whats going on. And here we have a similar story of hl2 with gamers sitting awaiting their game to be released on the 29th and low and behold, have the date come and go with little to none information or press releases, and there isnt even an official half-life 2 site from valve or sierra which is easy to find with any real info on the game.

Since when did Valve owe you anything?
