In what is being hailed as a 'world first scheme' several Victorian game devlopment companies will receive
PlayStaion 2 development kits for free as part of a Victorian Government scheme to promote game development. These usually cost around $20,000 each and SONY control licensing tightly.
"The scheme means small developers or publishers can get their hands on a kit, which would otherwise be impossible... The tooling kits for the PS2 are not just given out to anyone"
Tantalus are quoted in the article as saying it would allow them to develop original titles for PS2 without having to sign up with a foreign publisher.
