Fresh from Tokyo Games Show comes Microsoft's press release announcing the launch date of their 'New Xbox Experience':
With the launch of the New Xbox Experience(1) on Nov. 19, Xbox 360 owners will enjoy the following:

-- Entertainment without limits. Xbox 360 invites you into a limitless world where the best games, movies and TV shows live side by side with your personal pictures and music library, and ready to share your fun anytime with friends across the globe through Xbox LIVE.
-- Xbox LIVE Party. Xbox 360 allows you to create a virtual party on your TV with up to seven friends. With LIVE Party, voice chat while you play games, share photos in real time(2) and entertain friends all over the world.
-- Personality plus. Create a customizable, animated avatar and literally jump into the world of Xbox LIVE. Your avatar is your game-face throughout the New Xbox Experience and represents your personality -- whether you are a LIVE Party host or chatting with a friend. With custom avatars created by the more than 14 million members worldwide, Xbox LIVE will have as many avatars as Tokyo has residents.(3)
-- On-demand entertainment. Xbox 360 is home to the best TV and movie entertainment, including more than 12,000 exclusive films and TV episodes from Netflix Inc., and a large online library of on-demand high-definition TV shows and movies from partners such as Constantin, Disney, MGM, NBC Universal Inc. and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.(4)
-- Games for the community, by the community. For the first time in the history of console gaming, thousands of games developed by the creative community will be available to the public. The Community Games channel on Xbox LIVE will include games made by students, hobbyists, and average people all around the world and will be exclusive to Xbox LIVE.

Only for USA users.

X-Box Live = reinventing the internet Micro$oft style.

Yeh for now it's only for USA users. Which sucks but there was some hope expressed that it would roll out internationally - although I wouldn't be holding my breath.

Personally I would have liked to have seen MS harden up and just tell all their partners that it was going to be done internationally. As long as the stupid media cartels are still stuck in territory-based distribution schemes I think we're all doomed for things like this.

this truely sounds like the saddest thing in the world. like if nobody turns up for your real party, you jump on live rather than jump like levi.

I've been following the news about this one, and I'm excited about it. Really it's two separate initiatives:

1) Add a bunch of new features, like Avatars, LIVE Parties, PrimeTime, NetFlix etc.
2) Completely overhaul the UI - they've really put a lot of effort into making the right information available at your fingertips.

TBH, I'm a little excited about it - the new features are OK, free bonuses if you will. The parties thing sounds awesome - it just lets you and some other people 'stick together' while you bounce between games, without dropping communication. The dashboard overhaul is actually the coolest part - it's much easier to find DLC, look at your achievements, compare yourself with friends etc. Watching it in motion at PAX, it just is much slicker and sexier than the current dash. Bring on the fall update!

It just sounds like MSN group voice chat to me - another effort to make consoles more like PCs (like they'll ever be that good). Still, if you have a bunch of people that happen to have Xbox 360s it'll probably be sort of neat.

I reckon it sounds awesome. Sure it has some cutsey useless features, but it has some really good ones as well.
