PlayStation 3 Portal 2 owners rejoice, as a free DLC campaign designed specifically for the PlayStation Move is now available for Valve's Portal-based sequel.

Titled Non-Emotional Manipulation, the free DLC will introduce a new co-op campaign into the last batch of PlayStation Move DLC, In Motion. It will be applied via a patch and does require the PlayStation Move to operate, like the previous DLC.

Portal 2 PlayStation 3 developer Sixense Studios took to the PlayStation Blog to outline just what exactly the new pack will give players, including a thank you to those who voted In Motion as the best use of Move technology last year. To help those who haven't yet purchase Portal 2 or the In Motion DLC, both are now on sale in the PlayStation Store, with further discounts applied to Plus members.

In a somewhat surprisingly development, Blizzard Entertainment announced a September 3rd release date for the PlayStation 3 version of Diablo 3, with a press release that casually included mention of an Xbox 360 version of the game as well.

As the console-tailored version of the successful PC game had been unveiled at Sony's PlayStation 4 event, it was widely presumed to be exclusive to the PS3 and PS4, but it looks like Sony-stalwarts won't be getting preferential treatment here afterall:
Diablo® III will make its console debut on the Sony PlayStation™ 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360® in the U.S., Canada, Spanish-speaking Latin America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

In preparation for the upcoming launch, select retailers in these regions are now taking preorders for the PS3™ and Xbox 360 versions of the game, which will be available at a suggested retail price of $89.95 AUD. Both console versions of Diablo III will be fully localized in English, German, French, Latin American Spanish, European Spanish, Russian, Italian, Polish, and Brazilian Portuguese. Further release details, including retail availability in Brazil, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia, will be announced at a later date.

The console versions of Diablo III have been custom-tailored for gamepad-driven action, with a dynamic camera perspective that puts your hero front and center, as well as an all-new user interface and an intuitive control system that make vanquishing evil feel like second nature. Players can take on the vile denizens of the Burning Hells alone or in a party of up to four via same-screen local cooperative play or online over PlayStation Network™ or Xbox LIVE®. In addition, the game supports parties composed of both local and online players. Once gamers experience the rush of Diablo III’s unique brand of hack-and-slash gameplay from the comfort of their couch, Sanctuary will never be the same.
The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game are due on September 3rd, with a release date still undetermined for the PlayStation 4 release.

No mention was made of an Xbox One version of the game, but given this latest development, it seems likely.

After the flurry of uncertainty that followed the Xbox One announcement, Microsoft has now finally straightened up their message, outlining a detailed description of the upcoming console's approach to DRM.

The article posted on the new official Xbox news blog, as you would expect, has been masterfully spun to extol the positive benefits of the device's approach to restricting how customers are permitted to use the games that they purchase, with no mention of potential negatives.
With our modern architecture, Xbox One games will load more quickly, will be always accessible from the cloud, and there is no physical limit to the size or scope of the content provided.
While the new system will now prevent users from temporarily lending a game disc to a friend, or privately selling a disc secondhand, Xbox One attempts consolation for diminishing those rights by permitting the digital rights to a game linked to your Xbox LIVE account to be transferred (once only) to another player that has been on your Xbox LIVE friends list for at least 30 days, and will be enabling a new trade-in process for disc-based games at "participating retailers", with the platform holder promising that they will not be charging a fee of their own for the privilege.

Although this latest outline doesn't mention it, a broadband connection is required to facilitate this system on the Xbox One, and previous statements from Microsoft have confirmed that the console will need to authenticate at least once every 24 hours for the games installed on it to function.

The information from this latest development does little to impact the conclusions drawn in our recent Analysis of the Xbox One DRM scheme.

It's AusGamers' position that all of these potential benefits could still be achieved with an optional Internet requirement, and that this implementation of digital rights management does not justify the erosion of consumer rights it necessitates.

Konami's pre-e3 presentation took place over livestream this morning, bringing new details on PES 2014, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, and most prominently, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

According to Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, Phantom Pain will be set in 1984, and Snake will be 49 years old. Kojima impied that for this reason, they wanted an actor that would fit the aged character --introducing Kiefer Sutherland as the new voice of Snake.

Despite long-time Snake voice actor David Hayter's take on the character at a wide range of different ages having been completely respectable in past games, the veteran performer only has nice things to say about being usurped by a Hollywood celebrity, tweeting "Can’t fault @RealKiefer. Great actor, good man. The game will probably still be excellent. Like New Coke!".

You can watch the full recorded presentation below, which includes a discussion with Sutherland about his approach to the coveted role.

Metal Gear Sold V: The Phantom Pain still has no planned release date, or confirmed launch platforms.

Due to what looks like a serious slip up at Game Informer, the long awaited debut title from Respawn Entertainment, the independent studio formed by Call of Duty veterans, has been revealed as a first person shooter titled TitanFall.

The information comes by way of the ever-resourceful NeoGAF forums, where a user Cartman86 claims to have been delivered the July digital issue of Game Informer magazine early, providing the publication’s cover as evidence, followed by a huge summary of information from the feature article on TitanFall.
Xbox One, PC
  • Xbox 360 version developed by someone else
  • Planned to target current gen, but realized that they couldn't run it
  • Started to look into next gen and the answer they got from Microsoft intrigued them
  • They said they needed to focus on fewer hardware. In the future they are open to more. They don't specify if it would be this project or another.
  • Plan to use Microsoft's Cloud for dedicated servers and physics and AI calculations
  • Campaign Multiplayer, "traditional" multiplayer mode, and a "One-Player Mode".
  • Spring 2014 Release Date
  • There are a good amount of screens. In my opinion it visually looks pretty nice.
  • First person shooter
  • "Mech" and ground combat
  • "Mech's" are called Titans.
  • They want these Titans to feel fast. They can dodge etc.
  • If you don't want to pilot the Titan you can have it follow you, killing people as it goes along.
  • Player characters are called Pilots (male and female)
  • They are extremely agile. Can run on walls, multiple jumps.
  • They can take down Titans. Jumping on them and shooting the "brain".
  • You need to be cunning as a pilot. "Hit and fade" tactics is the term the game director uses.
  • Pilots come equipped with a variety of weapons. Pistol, Assault Rifle, Anti-Titan Rocket Launcher, data knife used to hack AI characters into joining you.
  • There are AI enemies on the maps.
  • You survive longer than in COD. Making it more welcoming to newcomers.
  • Source Engine. Building new engine = too much time.
  • Source gives them 60 fps
  • Modified Source - "Rewriting major portions of it".
  • Article talks about the process of forming the team, being fired, prototyping ideas etc. I recommend reading it.
  • Going for a District 9 or Blade Runner vibe.
  • Integrate memorable single player moments into a multiplayer game.
  • Storytelling style will be more Left 4 Dead.
  • Humans segregated between Earth and frontier planets. Corporation trying to take the resources of these frontier people.
  • Progression system. No details yet
  • Notably the GI article reportedly explains that the game won’t be appearing on PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 due to the small size of the Respawn team, not wanting to spread themselves too thin “Not to say we won't [go multiplatform] in the future, but for our first game we wanted to focus on making the best game we could.”

We’ll almost certainly get an official look at this one when E3 kicks off, either at EA's press conference, or Microsoft’s, and we can’t help feeling bad for all involved in the game’s formal reveal as the wind is taken out of its sails.

Comprised of talent that have worked on titles like Assassin’s Creed III and Dead Space 3, indie studio Spearhead Games' co-founder Simon Darveau has taken to the PlayStation Blog to unveil their first new project since forming - Tiny Brains.

Exclusive to PlayStation 4, the new title is a co-operative puzzle game that aims to find new ways to interact and challenge your brain. Set in a lab where four super-powered animals have to work together to solve puzzles and escape from a mad scientist’s experiment, Tiny Brains ensures that players can’t get by without talking to each other, pushing that co-operative boundary.
We have a “no design doc” policy at Spearhead. Being able to do this has been one of the best things about going indie, and the philosophy helps us make significant creative developments in a short amount of time. With no design docs, we can think about how to make the best experience at all times. When a designer has a cool idea for a puzzle or level, they just make it, and we all play it together. From there we decide whether the prototype should be incorporated, tweaked, or chucked.
No release date has yet been given for this quite interesting indie title, however Spearhead Games will be at E3 2013 so stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the event. For now you can check out the four characters below plus a glimpse at what looks to be some of the possible levels.

Recently AusGamers was invited out to take a look at Zenimax Online's upcoming Elder Scrolls Online MMO, a title that has garnered hesitant reception from fans hoping that the series' well-known single-player elements have been kept intact.

Luckily, this seems to be the case with our own Steve Farrelly coming out from a hands-on preview feeling that TESO plays more like the single-player Elder Scrolls games we’ve all come to know and love. Specifically Skyrim. He also takes a look at just what Zenimax Online has in store for MMO players, including glimpses at exploration without guidelines, NPC interactions and the ability to starve Keeps in PvP as well as much, much more.

Deep Silver has unveiled a very unique collector's edition for the wacky open-world title Saints Row 4, offering up a real life replica of the in-game dubstep gun that allows you to kill people with music. Such a gun should probably be handled carefully, but luckily this replica only comes with lasers and sound effects.
Included in the Super Dangerous Wub Wub edition is a 12 inch Dub Step gun replica capable of rendering your enemies absolutely speechless with the power of wub. The ultra-high quality weapon replica packs a party with a bitchin’ design, sweet tunes directly from the in-game Dubstep Gun and a laser sight. Make no mistake, it’s time to get down.
Not to be completely outdone, the aptly named super dangerous wub wub edition also offers a awe-inspiring 8 inch Johnny Gat Memorial Statue for fans to pay tribute to while they kick some serious face, a "dubstep doomsday button" to drop bombs on the go and of course the game which includes all bonuses form the Commander in Chief Edition.

The Super Dangerous Wub Wub edition will be available to pre-order shortly from retail stores. Saints Row 4 launches on August 23rd for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The crowdfunded, android-powered OUYA console has received plenty of praise from indie developers hopeful for a more open platform for their games, and now it looks to have attracted at least one major games publisher (albeit with some older titles), with SEGA reportedly set to bring Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, and Sonic CD to the $99 device. (via Games Industry International):
All three games are optimized for the Ouya's Tegra 3 processor and free-to-try business model. The first levels of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I and Sonic CD are available to try, while Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II will offer the first two levels.

GamesIndustry International spoke to Ouya founder and chief executive officer Julie Uhrman and Sega of America director of mobile business David Zemke about the partnership. Both parties were excited about Sonic making his appearance on the Ouya.

"Sega is an example of the types of developers that are coming to Ouya. We've always said that because Ouya is open, we lower the barriers for any type of developer, whether it's AAA or a newcomer. We're going to see all types of developers and games on Ouya. We're excited to have Sega as a partner, they're a great publisher. Sonic is an iconic brand and we think it's just going to add to the fun of playing on Ouya," said Uhrman.
The article notes that the games in question are already available on the Google Play Store for android devices, however an OUYA store specific launch, with the user-experience tailored to the console's features, represents a reasonable endorsement from SEGA all the same.

Publisher Sony Online Entertainment has today announced that two of their larger MMOs, both Planetside 2 and DC Universe Online, are going to be coming to the PlayStation 4 sometime after the console's launch.

According to the initial report from IGN, both titles will be getting the digital treatment, although Sony Online Entertainment is keeping the release date close to their hands, simply saying that "the PS4 versions will be available as free-to-play digital downloads this year."

Currently the MMOFPS Planetside 2 is only available on PC, however SOE's John Smedley has tweeted that the the PlayStation 4's version "is going to yield a faster PC version.. much better at multicore support" which is great news for everyone. In regards to cross-platform support, Smedley separately tweeted that PC players will sadly be unable to play against their PlayStation 4 console friends, however did ensure that those playing DC Universe Online on the PlayStation 4 will "be playing on the same servers as the PS3 players."

Interestingly Smedley also praised the PlayStation 4's architecture when asked by a follower, stating that he is "excited to have a stable platform that will be there for years that has 8 gig of memory and a super fast processor and gfx." Hopefully we'll see more of SoE's future projects being ported over to the console to help strengthen its library.

Free-to-play business models and MMO style games are looking to be much more common on the upcoming next generation of consoles than they were on the last, and Canadian developer Digital Extremes is getting in early, announcing that its co-operative focused third-person shooter Warframe will be a launch title for the PlayStation 4.

Warframe originally launched in March 2013 for PC, and is avilable free-to-play over on playwarframe.com.
“The fact that we’re developing Warframe for the launch of the PS4 this fall is unbelievably awesome,” said Steve Sinclair, creative director at Digital Extremes. “The irony is not lost on me that our original sci-fi concept for this game was the first ever seen footage for the PS3 generation that never came to fruition until now. Exciting times are ahead with this next gen transition.”

As a co-op focused game that thrives on community and clan-building, Warframe will take full advantage of the social connectivity and community building features coming to the PlayStation®4 system. Some of the features involve the new enhanced DUAL SHOCK 4 controller that offers integrated audio, touch-pad controls and gameplay streaming capabilities. Additionally, 2nd screen functionality will come in the form of an Android and iOS App called Warframe Nexus. This companion app will allow players to perform in-game tasks and provide pertinent real-time game info while away from the PS4® system such as alerts to critical missions, crafting and building inventory, and scheduling gaming sessions with friends just to name a few.
A new trailer celebrating the announcement can be seen below.

After being spotted in the Steam CDR registry database earlier this year, Konami has officially quelled rumours and announced that the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow will be making its way to PC in both physical and digital form.

Titled the Ultimate Edition, the PC version will be coming not just with the full game originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but the Reverie and Resurrection add-on chapters. It also boasts "enhanced 1080p HD graphics, runs at a solid 60 frames per second via recommended spec, and offers trophy integration through Steam with Cloud saving."
The stunning 3D epic is set at the end of days and dark powers isolate the Earth. The World’s alliance with the Heavens has been threatened by a dark and malevolent force – the eponymous Lords of Shadow. Across this shattered land, the souls of the dead wander unable to find peace, whilst creatures of evil wreak chaos and death upon the living.

Enter Gabriel Belmont: a member of the Brotherhood of Light, an elite group of holy knights who protect and defend the innocent against the supernatural. His beloved wife was brutally murdered by evil forces and her soul trapped for eternity. Neither living nor dead, she foresees the horrific truth of what is at stake and guides Gabriel to his destiny – and hopefully salvation for the world.
Castlevania Lords of Shadow: Ultimate Edition will be released for Windows PC via Steam on August 27th, and as a physical product on August 30th. Check out the announcement trailer below for a look at the action.

Square Enix has officially lifted the veil on the recently teased Deus Ex: The Fall, revealing a stealth action shooter RPG designed specifically for Android and iOS touchscreen tablet devices, with a narrative following on from the novel Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect.

Although The Fall features a similar graphic style and many familiar elements to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the tablet focus is likely to be a disappointment for most that were eagerly awaiting a proper followup to the 2011 PC and console title.

Deus Ex: The Fall is being developed by Square Enix’s European mobile division, with collaboration from Human Revolution developer Eidos Montreal, and mobile studio N-Fusion.
“We’re really excited to continue the DEUS EX series on mobile and start a new journey”, said Jean-François Dugas, Executive Game Director at Eidos-Montréal. “The team has done an incredible job creating a whole new story and controls for intuitive touch screen gameplay, whilst staying true to the DEUS EX universe. Players can expect exploration, action, hacking, stealth, social enhancers, player choice and consequence- the full DEUS EX experience.”

“Smart devices are central to Square Enix’s platform strategy and we approach it with the same attention as our boxed and digital releases. DEUS EX: THE FALL is going to be testament to our commitment in delivering high quality entertainment on mobile and tablet devices,” said Antony Douglas, General Manager of Square Enix Mobile.

A new update has hit the official client for Valve's free-to-play title Dota 2, bringing with it the usual bug fixes but also a quite large list of balance changes for both heroes and certain items.

The long list of balances include changes to various hero damage outputs, skills and duration decreases/increases. Also of note is the discovery of what looks to be official native offline support for Dota 2, which was noted by Reddit user vtor67. The post includes a screenshot which shows the "Dota 2 test client without a connection to the steam servers", allowing them to "practice offline with bots, do quests, and do anything that wouldn't require a connection to the steam servers." Currently those who lose Internet connection on the live client are unable to do anything outside of accessing console commands.

It is not known whether LAN support will be added for offline mode, and whether you'll be able to toggle offline connection inside the client, instead of currently going offline through the Steam client. Hopefully we'll hear more on this new addition but for now you can check out the full changelog over here to check whether your favourite hero has been given a buff or a nerf.

With E3 2013 only just around the corner, Battlefield developer DICE has hinted it has unannounced projects to show in a new video posted to YouTube, with vice president and general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson telling fans that a keen eye should be kept on EA's E3 coverage
“E3 is less than a week away, and we’re hard at work with all the awesome games that we have to show you,” Troedsson says. “Our excellent dev team is hard at work with Battlefield 4, of course, but we also have a couple of surprises up our sleeve.”
Earlier in the year DICE showcased Battlefield 4, their current and next-gen shooter, but many recent rumours and accidental retail listings have pointed at a possible Mirror's Edge 2 in the works. DICE has also been penned for future Star Wars games after EA recently acquired the rights to video game adaptations, so hopefully we'll also see something new from that IP.

We'll definitely know more on what DICE are planning come E3 2013, so stay tuned on AusGamers for the latest coverage.

Square Enix has unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming ghostly action-adventure game Murdered: Soul Suspect, revealing just how Massachusetts detective Ronan O’Connor goes about discovering who exactly murdered him and how he plans to take down his killer from beyond the grave.

Using his ghostly abilities, Ronan will be able to "communicate" with the living by reading their minds and influencing their thoughts and actions to help push along his case. You'll also be able to interrogate the ghosts of Salem’s past citizens to piece together the puzzle, while battling demonic spirits to save Ronan's soul and uncover the shocking truth about who is responsible for his death.

Murdered: Soul Suspect is expected in early 2014 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. No developer has officially been revealed for the game, though Internet sleuth, Superannuation, proclaimed duties were being handled by Airtight Games (Dark Void, Quantum Conundrum), and has this resume to help back up his claim. Square Enix has assured us that more on the new title will be revealed at E3 2013, however, you can check out the trailer below in the meantime.
