Web Design Help - Non-Flash Lightbox Alternatives

I'm looking for an alternative to lightbox that can allow me to have some HTML and secondary images\icons\links in the description of each image.

Basically I want to replicate what I already have on my folio but without using flash.

I already have lightbox as a backup if people don't have flash but it doesn't allow the nice presentation I have via the flash setup.

Obviously I want it to be free and video embedding would be nice too, it would save me having a separate section for my showreel.

Look at fancybox (it uses jQuery). I use fancybox for all lightbox things on every website I use. Supports almost everything and you can put display custom HTML in a lightbox. Also ties in well with jQuery Easing and you can also use the mousewheel to scroll through which is awesome too.

I like your resume, it's got a lot of cool stuff on it. But the second dot point in the first job is wrongly formatted.

edit:
  • Developing and advising the direction of the lighting and shading pipelines

  • It's missing the style=' ' attributes from < li class=MsoNormal21 > and the < span
    lang=EN-AU style='font-size:11.0pt;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;mso-bidi-font-weight:
    bold' >stuff.

    My fixed version maybe?

Fancybox looks alright, but they all pretty much do the same shit.

Other ones are greybox, thickbox, shadowbox, slidebox

    But I've always used lightbox2.

Nothing wrong with your lightbox on that site, looks fine...
You should be able to put anything you want in it, including the extra html you want down the bottom. I don't know how to do that because I do it with drupal.

True, I have just found fancybox to be the more flexible and powerful when compared to other lightbox alternatives I've worked with in the past.

From what I can gather if I want custom html\text formatting I need to do it as inline html? so does that mean each image needs its own html file?

I'm using a slightly modified version of prettyphoto.

    http://www.no-margin-for-errors.com/projects/prettyphoto-jquery-lightbox-clone/

I had to modify where it put buttons because it puts the expand button on the top-right, which is where people expect the close button to be.

I also modified my on-show javascript to detect middle clicks and ctrl+clicks to NOT open a lightbox and instead open the image in a new tab.

Example in action (just scroll down a bit)

edit: the site also has good samples for all sorts of scenarios

It's not just apple products that are the issue with flash, apparently a lot of HR departments like to save off images from folios to email around, which they can't do in flash

After some tinkering this afternoon though I have it working pretty much exactly how I want to using FancyBox, I just need to go through and set up all the data for it now.

this isn't just apple... flash was good for the web last decade. it's time to move on.

Adobe to cease developing mobile Flash plugin for Android and PlayBook - relevant, but not actually a big deal - there was never such thing as a good Flash experience on a mobile device anyway.

ok the fancybox version is all set up and running now, it may still show up as the old flash one until you delete your cache if you visited it recently.

Looks good mate, glad you got it working.

With the issue your facing I noticed that it only happens on the homepage (I'm using Chrome). I imagine this would have something to do with the fact it is in a frame. If you zoom right out and then click on one, it works fine.

yeah that's why I can't figured it out, I've got autoresize disabled and have manually set the frame sizes so it shouldn't be doing that

Ok I've figured it out now, it should not cut the bottom of the frames off now (though you will likely have to delete your cache to see it in action)
