"An Australian technologist has caused a global stir after discovering Facebook tracks the websites its users visit even when they are logged out of the social networking site.
Separately, Facebook's new Timeline feature, launched last week, has been inadvertently accessed by users early, revealing a feature that allows people to see who removed them from their friends' lists.

that article above even mentions vash!

When you use a free web service you’re the underclass. At best you’re a guest. At worst you’re a beggar, couchsurfing the web and scavenging for crumbs.

Always have had suspicions, is it worth giving up the convenient networking with friends for the peace of mind though?

Just go Google+ I guess. They're practically handing it to them anyway. Google+ with more people in my network will be good, it's basically what Facebook was at the start, except with circles.

What, you mean they use cookies to track their userbase when they aren't on their site?

Not a huge surprise given the proliferation of "Like this post" or "Share on Facebook" or "See my page likers" widgets, iframes and code samples that are being implemented.

If you're worried by this stuff, you would shit bricks over what is tracking given how much Google Analytics is used... add the new 'remarketing' strategy to your SEM line up and you will never be alone on the interwebs again.

Yeah, cause Google would never track people. I mean, never ever...ever.
