40 obvious ones:
small embedded squares = 5*2 = 10
1x1 squares = 16
2x2 squares = 9
3x3 squares = 4
4x4 squares = 1
I'm guessing there's meant to be some sort of trick. If I go cross-eyed and hold it there it becomes 80. If I turn my head 90 degrees and go cross-eyed I can get a lock which makes it easier to hold it, by lining up the two small embedded squares, not sure how many there is then. You could probably also make some more by printing it out and folding the paper. You could use a shitty display or a magnifying glass and count each black pixel as a square.

Fucking heaps. Squares in squares. But the only one which can't be mirrored is the biggest square containing them all, so has tobe an odd number. Everything inside is mirrored at least once
