Step outside, look up and marvel! From a mate on Facebook: "There's a partial lunar eclipse visible from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, & Perth happening right NOW - it will be visible until about 10 pm."
Wikipedia has a whole entry devoted to it:
A partial lunar eclipse is currently taking place. The south part of the moon has entered the umbra and will be about one third covered by the Earth's umbral shadow at maximum eclipse. The portion of the moon within the penumbral shadow will be significantly dimmed. The portion of the moon inside the umbral shadow will only be illuminated by sunlight refracted through the Earth's atmosphere, thus much dimmer, and having a reddish hue.
I'm going to steal his photo because it's awesome:
Aye, just went out and saw it, sadly my camera didn't give any kind of image worth looking at :(
This is about as good as I can manage:
I took a couple of pics, WTF is this green thing in front?
I reckon its swamp gas reflecting off venus.
more like gas from uranus.
ho ho ho
Why do I need to step outside again? There's a handy picture of the eclipse in this thread. ;)
