Maritime security engages Somali pirates (video)

Interesting. I wonder where this kind of approach falls in a legal sense. There have been many stories about Somali pirates taking hostages and killing people.

Only thing I didn't like was that once the threat had been removed they kept firing. That seems unnecessary.

nothing wrong with that. fuck those pirates. they've effectively fucked a huge part of the sea with their shit for too long. its so lucrative, its a legitimate job in that failed state.

they fuck people up just to make a quick buck and they're idiots about it too. heard a story where a director of a company managed to negotiate the return of an employee from a million $ to 45 grand by telling them that its illegal for them to pay a ransom and if they do the family has to sell the house which could possibly only fetch for 45g

Based on your extensive experience in security? How could you tell the "threat had been removed" from that video?

They were talking about a second boat coming in that I couldn't even see and those guys can be armed with RPG's. I'm no security expert myself but I do have an internet connection which is just as good and I don't think any of their actions could really be seen as unnecessary.

If pirates were attempting to board and murder and/or take me hostage, I'd be repelling with extreme prejudice.

Shit yeah. I wouldn't stop shooting until they were dead or out of sight. Fuck em. I'll be damned if I'd let some filthy pirate on my ship.

International waters too....so....no laws there preventing the dispatch of hostile pirates. Even if the skiffs are full of holes, it only takes 1 guy who is alive to fire a few shots or RPGs at the tanker to do damage to personnel or the ship itself. I was actually hoping for mounted LMGs or HMGs in the video.

the pirates can die from exposure and bleeding to death, or once a lucky bullet puts them out of their misery, regardless though those pirates are dead, so it doesn't matter if they kept on firing.

They were constantly firing due to them being warning shots and I don't think they even hit anyone in the first boat as you could see bullets skimming through the water. The second boat was about halfway into the video, just out of sight of the camera.

That boat is like 20m tall and that little moving boat is probably another ~50m or more away.
Those werent warning shots, they were misses.

It's hard enough to hit a stationary target the size of a rabbit at 20m with 100% accuracy when calm with a long rifle if you aren't benched or prone.

The threat wouldnt be removed until that bugger was at the bottom of the sea. An able person with passionate ill intent can still pull a trigger, talk on a radio, destroy evidence (pop a grenade in the boat) etc. To tell you the truth, the first objective of protection was basically lost when the small boat rammed the contaniner ship.

Excellent video though.

So if you have a security detail and pirates try to board you aren't allowed to shoot them? Fuck off.

I don't quite get it... Was the first shot a warning shot and every shot after that shoot to kill or was every shot fired meant to be a warning shot ???

it used to be illegal for merchant ships to carry guns but the US changed the law so that their ships now can, other countries are following suit.
