Has anyone had old school negatives developed lately?

Today I went through a heap of stuff I had in storage here and in brisbane and I came across a box for of old photo negatives. I actually hadn't given much thought in a pretty long time or at least since the advent of digital photography but who does old school 35mm film these days?

Idealy I'd like to end up with all the pictures on CD or something and all my negatives developed and then put on something Cd or memory stick. SO has anyone gone and had anything done with thier old negatives or photos later?

Kmart?
I know they did in 2010, might be different now.

Yep. I did about 2 months ago. Found an old camera with an undeveloped roll of film in them and we were curious as to what was on them.

Took them to the Bentleys Camera House Indooroopilly Shoppingtown and they printed them up no problems - can't remember what it cost but I thought it was cheap (~$10). I can't remember for sure if they could put them on CD - I /think/ they could but I opted to not get it done.

I would guess that any of those camera-type places that does any sort of printing (short of the kiosk-type setups) will be able to handle them.

Saw Big W North Lakes with old school films in their film processing setup. Kmart is likely as mentioned.

Ok cool thanks for that. I have ngeatives going back as far as the 70's and would like to eventually get them all done. The fact that I hop between the US and here means carrying photo albums is out of the question not to mention the obvious advantage of having everything backed up on CD, hdd or memory stick.

Cost might be an issue even at the price trog mentioned but it's not like I have to get everything done all at once.

thanks again

Yeah I had it done at Ted's Camera House. Took two weeks. They send them away as well.

Was quite funny because at first I thought Pharmacies would still do it (nope) and second I thought that I could get them developed in one hour (nope).

If you have a shitload of them and you only want to digitise them, you could probably by a scanner that is capable of doing negatives reasonably cheaply and do them all yourself. First thing on Google I found: http://www.hp.com/united-states/consumer/digital_photography/organize_archive_photos/tips/scanning_slides.html

I sort of assume these things are relatively commonplace now but don't really know for sure.

ah thanks trog it never even crossed my mind that home scanners might be able to scan negatives. I'll have to have a good look into it, no doubt it would work out much cheaper than getting them all processed at a store of some sort.

there are fewer and fewer places doing this, and more and more are no longer doing it on site (some of the machines have not been worth the fixing)

photo conti still do, and it has the bonus of the tech having half a brain and knowing how to correct the chemical mix etc (ie not just letting it go on auto and not give a damn about what you get)

they'll also chuck it all on a funny silver round thing called a CD for you, or print them onto photo paper, I got a couple of rolls done about 8 months ago, (one I had found in the car, and the film wasn't too bad)
