Yep i'm living on Koh Samui teaching and training Muay Thai.. I've got a really sick routine going at the moment where i run, skip, shadowbox and do pads every morning before school.
Other exercise I do is play 7 a side football (soccer) once a week which completely wrecks me.
I've never been that into exercise as I am now but I think the key is routine.. it's never easy to get into a routine, but once you are it's easy to maintain.
So what sort of exercise do you do and how do you make it enjoyable? Obviously it's fun punching/kicking/elbowing the shit out of pads.
I dance / run / skip / muay thai / football but would really like to get into swimming.
Nice vid! Lethal :) Looks like a whole bunch of fun.
I do an hour and a half of cardio 3 days a week, and an hour of weights 3 days a week. I love medium --> long distance walking, and cover around 13 klms for 1 of the days of cardio, then on another one I jog 4 klms at a reasonable pace and the third day of cardio I sprint around Southbank and under the cliffs like a lunatic and do stair and hill/incline climbs/sprints. Do a lot of pad and bag/band/ab bench/skipping/planking/starjumps too. Try and make it fun by improving times, adding weight, monitoring heart rates and pressure, gawking at the eye candy, measuring body fat and weight, mood etc and tweaking diet and other influences. It is a bit of a thrill to see results too. Also play tennis! :)
Trying to do cardio. It's so hard with my work routine though.
I do force myself to do weights though. At least twice a week. Spent $600 on a bench so I figure I may as well use it.
Fuck yeah jakeg looking sharp bro all the combos are pretty tight nice pace for the whole set. When I see vids with pad work I wish I was still doing muay thai... :( love the kicking, kneeing and elbow combos that boxing doesn't have.. Keep up the good work, any fights coming up?
Re: topic I go mainly boxing twice a week, usual routines for each 2 hour session. Skip 20 minutes, variety of run 30/40 minutes, shadow box 20 minutes then bad works and sometimes sparring.
I also run mid distance 5-10kms on the off day once a week (trying to run twice a week for goldcoast marathon next year).
I used to play futsal as well on Saturday but my knees just can't handle it so I stopped playing it about 4 months now and my knees felt a lot better (can bent then and stuff now lol)
Windsurfing! It can be grueling, scary and mentally/physically challenging... Being a mile from shore in 8ft chopswell is very unnerving. But after a good session you can't wipe the smile off my face.
sport is my main fun exercise (cricket twice x indoor (tue/wed), 1 x twenty20 on sundays) and netty on thursday nites
im slowly learning to love gym, but i dunno that its fun. i appreciate how it makes me feel (4 x week).
and then my daily cardio, run 6.5k, 100 pushups, and 15 minutes odd of skipping, which i do every morning. again, not really fun, but i appreciate how i feel after it.
Lifting 4 times a week, high intensity cardio (cycling and running) 4-5 times a week, body is feeling good/handling it easy.
It's the cutting on 1800-2200 calories that's catching up to me finally, been dropping ~3kg a month.
Doing deadlifts, bb rows, weighted pullups, weighted dips, db bench, db military press. Can't fit a power rack into this garage so I can't squat or press with a bb for the time being.
Lifting. Most muscle groups except not a single calf muscle worked. I'll get back into running 3 days a week when I get over this cold I got while I was traveling in Asia.
dont do any squats or legwork, i dont like it interferring with my running
Yeah that's always a pain, but the benefits of squats and deadlifts are huge as they utilise so many different muscles. It's also the best way to increase core strength. I find that even though it is a bit painful at first, the pain from leg workouts usually subsides after a few minutes of running.
I play basketball and do a bit of weight lifting (mostly compound stuff like bench, shoulder press, deadlifts, pull ups, dips, rows). The most interesting thing I probably do is going to Victoria Park; there's a nice path through there with little exercise stations along the way where you can do stuff like squats, dips, pull ups/chin ups, situps at various angles etc. It's quite fun and shakes things up a bit.
I used to do the 300 workout with a mate. While there are quite a few variations on this, we'd do the original which was made up of:
25 pull ups
50 dead lifts
50 push ups
50 box jumps
50 floor wipers
50 single-arm dumbell clean and press
25 pull ups
We started off just doing as many reps of each thing as we could in one go, and try to increase the reps each week. To mix it up, we'd sometimes change it up we would do the exact numbers and try to improve on the time taken. It's a very challenging workout.
Started doing gym in the mornings before work at 4.30am and go after work if i can be fucked.
Surfing season is coming up aswell =) been the shittest waves last few weekends :(
Spook, dont be a puss, work legs. My mate has just started leg training and has noticed significant improvement in touch football explosive power as well as recovery. If you are concerned about soreness or bulkiness, just lower the weight or do more reps.
I was fastest sprinter in highschool (nearly a decade ago) and never did sprint training however I did do gym and it included legs and thats why i think. Plus i was the fastest swimmer. True story. Weights pwn.
I can see what Spook is saying though, the last thing you want when you wake up in the morning ready for a jog is sore leg muscles. I guess if you are splitting the groups up you could do legs the last afternoon before your complete rest day. :)
*edit* Or does he mean as to not get too bulky to run? Hmmm.
Awesome to see everyone on the fitness bandwagon. <3 the exercise high.
I forgot to mention i do weights in the afternoons 3 times a week too, but I go with a mate and it's the spotting (pretty much PT) that really makes it enjoyable for me.
Thanks for compliments too, no fights planned as yet - the way i'm looking at it is just for enjoyment. I will wing a fight one weekend if im feeling good though.
Scoobs - been here in Thailand since August last year. Trained in Thailand for 2 months prior to that. Trained 6 months back in Aus. So just under 2 years.
Haha i hate the people who hammer other people for not doing legs......seriously leg exercises suck plus just run brah......what exactly do u need the leg power for? I do weights and running, I try and do exercise 5 times a week.

Squats and Deads are probably the 2 best exercises ever. They hit more muscles and stimulate more overall growth than anything else. Sure, i admit i hate squats but if you want the results, you should do them. Also, you can gain the most mass and strength in legs. Strength that will help sprinting, jumping or leg drive in other exercises (ie standing press). Most people dont do them cause they dont know how, or are scared. I used to be in that boat but once i made the switch, my training has never been better. If you dont wanna train legs, i certainly wont hammer you, but your training will suffer.
I'm looking to buy an electronic drumkit so I can get back into the best workout routine I've ever done. 2-3 hours of bashing on a drumkit never built massive muscles but it gave great definition and was a great thing to show off with.
If I can get one before April, I should be ready to compete in the world's fastest drummer comp in Vegas for feet. Try and beat my last high score of 836bpm.
Lulz, the good old "broscience".......do deads and squats to get upper body....na they get you a nice booty and legs....but i do not wish for these things, so i prefer to run.
They are good exercises.....but as I was saying, it's annoying when people get on peoples backs for not doing them like they are beating a child or something when meh, unless you need the leg drive power or strong legs who careZZ.

For fuun I try to plank as much as weight as I possibly can. Did 115kg for 45seconds yesterday.
You can plank for longer than that Damo. I can only do bodyweight planks as i train at home solo but i can manage bodyweight of 110kg for 2mins before cracking. The whole time im time watching though. If i could, i would rather chuck a plate or 2 on my back and do less time but its not possible solo.
Tit, 110kg ATM. Trust me, i felt it in my glutes but it was mainly back pulling that weight. If i had bent my knees more, i would have used more quads/hammy and less back.
Thing is planking with someone on your back depends where they are as to how long you can go.. If they're up closer to your shoulders its easier to hold as closer to a hold point.. do it on your lower back and you won't be able to hold it for nearly as long.
Yeah moisty, im a fat fucker. Fresh vids from today...
New personal best 165kg squat minimum parallel depth for 4 reps using my Manta Ray. Wanted 5 reps but wasnt confident. This is after the 210kg deads only 2 days ago. 5 sets.
115kg bench for 5 reps. Nothing fancy cause ive got a fucked right elbow but a new best for me. Completed using Fat Gripz. 5 sets.
And 95kg bicep curl for 3. Yeah, i swing, im not trying to isolate the bicep, rather recruit all the surrounding muscles and make it as much of a compound exercise as possible. 5 sets. Want to hit the magic 100kg before Xmas.
Your curls are beyond spastic, please stop doing them like that.
They work for me. Post your curls and let us judge you.
I will post again on Thur after my workout of stiff leg deads + overhead press + dips.
Skitza, without straps i could probably only manage 1 DL and thats with chalk. Ive used straps for years and would rather stick with them and do more weight rather than dropping weight and building up grip strength. I dont do competitions or anything so grip to me isnt a priority.
Your dead technique is a bit scary to watch, I can't help but think you're gonna injure yourself seriously very soon - way too much back and not enough flexibility in your legs

Lol. You obviously know fuck all about deadlifts. These are weights ive built up to over years of training. Trust me, flexibility and back strength is not a problem - i can stiff leg deadlift more than 160kg from floor and without any back issues.
Never tried them. I just try to break paralell and stay above the safety rails i have in.
And yeah JC, im going for more the weightlifter training regime and body size, not the ripped bodybuilder. I prefer the challenge of aiming for more reps/weight each week rather than boring 8-12 reps of the same weight for weeks on end. Thats me though.
I got some stuff from south side fitness and the guys there are awesome. The deadlifts seem fine to me, I started to not bend my knees as much after watching the science of a deadlift by Elliot Hulse.
Stiff leg deadlifts with new best of 175kg. First set of 5. I want to make a platform so i can get more range of movement but for the time being im stuck with lifting from the ground:
Side view of 3rd set, only managed 3, wanted 4:
For those that want to bitch about the bend in my knees, its much less than what i deadlift with and i certainly feel it more in my hammys than my back. Check out these vids i watched when learning for comparisons:
Standing press with new best of 80kg for my 2nd set of 5 reps. I have a fucked right elbow that i broke about 8 years ago and can only straighten it to about 30degrees so i cant extend my arms as much as most people.
Finally, i cant beat 50kgs on belt for dips. 1st set, wanted 5 but only managed 4:
Lol, was from Bamboo Drive Cedar Vale to Crestmead, I think google says 35 km's the way I walked (straight up the highway to Browns Plains, then along Browns Plains road). Take your gf shopping and use a pedometer, you'd be surprised how far they walk going in fucking circles :P
Lol, yeah that is pretty impressive! I guess it was at night and is also a very flat walk I am assuming from my memories of those areas. I push out 10-15klm walks around the Northside currently, but that is with some/one-third jogging, in the middle of the day/peak heat and it is quite hilly around here! :)
