Heh, read #2 reference on that wikipage that sipawhore posted.
All the tour destination stop offs are basically where the OPs are taken.

That's hardcore.

You've almost got to wonder if it's even worthwhile keeping the kids alive, their quality of life looks fucking horrid.

Crazy. Definitely watch this if you're considering it, really quite amazing to see, although very disturbing.

That vid of teq's is worth a watch, all 93 minutes.

That shit is insane, basically there is still a chance the thing could blow the fuck up, definatley not out of the woods yet :/

Oh and Russia had a type of missile that was 100 times more powerful than Chernobyl! They actually had 2,700 of them all with USA as the target :/

I haven't watched it all yet. It's pretty full on, so I'ma do it in bits and pieces. You feel so terrible for those kids.

Does anyone know when roughly the area affected by Chernobyl will become safe to live in again (if ever)?

No one really knows but the estimate is at least 800 years but probably never.

The 'tomb' that is currently containing reactor 4 (the busted one) is in dire need of replacing - it was supposed to last 30 years but after 20 years it's in bad shape. The second tomb, to go over the first, is under way and will cost 1 billion, money they don't have so it's already 10 years behind schedule....

Some of the radio active shit has a half life of 25,000 years (or something like that).

Christ.

So what happens if they don't get to build the new Tomb in time?

I think they said 450,000. The guy said something to the effect of "that pretty much can be considered the same as eternity".
